master copies are hard work, but I think you can spend more time on them. Really look at the angles and relationships for everthing. On the last one, the values are pretty close, but the basic drawing has a lot of issues, especially in the head. you've squashed it flat horizontally a little bit, and the relationship between the hair ribbon and forhead are reversed. The way I look at it when doing master copies, is they didn't just spend a few hours on it...they went until it was perfect! You can too! hehehe

I wouldn't worry too much about the texture of these copies, I'd focus just on correctness, values and edges. What I like to do is find the largest value shapes and just draw them in, and then refine from big to small

keep up the good work dude, studies always pay off with whatever you put into them

J.Boswell - thanks for the visit man!
Texahol - thanks for the crits man, really appreciated. I really would love to spend lots of time on these, but sometimes work gets in the way, that's why i want to make them short.. like a quickie or something But you're right, only trial and error makes you a better draftsmen. From big to small, that's how i work too, but i always try start with a basic underlying drying and start building up the shapes from there.. if i don't make the drawing i tend to make proportions way crazy.
jedininjaman - thanks for the vist and crit my friend!

here's another one, about 2-3 hours: velasquez.

    The Soccer Fan & a reject :P

The first one was done all digital. It's the cover for this month's "UIO2", which is an entertainment guide for the city I live in. The other one is called "White Heart". Both are based on the same topic of the month (which was about our cities big team winning the Copa Libertadores, the major football club tournament in south america, for the first time). The latter one was a bit more symbolic in a sense. By the way, it was done with oils, ink, and PS.

Great work with those master studies. I like how you work with color and that painting looks good, may be some troubles with face symmetry, not sure. I`d like to see finish result of that figure study, man!

    it's been a while!

yinteck - thanks bro.. master copies all the way!
the Angry Filipino - thanks man! the copies are truly enlighting.
zulu - thanks! i'll try to update more frequently.. hope you come back!
Sketch - thanks bro, my technique is still pretty basic, i hope i can concentrate on it on my future projects (the mixed technique that is)..
    yinteck - YEP!
JLALFARO - thanks bro!!! en eso estoy jajaj..
ULVER - thanks my friend! that painting was a useful learning tool - i learned all that I can't do! so now I'm trying to work on my skills in these.

heya people, thanks for commenting! sorry for the lack of updates.. i've been drawing and painting all right, but i haven't found time to update my CA.org site.. i got a full time job (that's almost over!), and freelancing has been keeping me busy. if you have been checking my blog lately, you'll see that i have put some updates every now and then. I'm also getting addicted to photography a bit (due to my brand new Sony Alpha350 - it's rockin!) To check out my latest bunch over at the photomob forums here.

Now for the art - just a small upate of the most recent stuff I have done... I'll make a major moleskine SB update as soon as possible promise!

Here is the first Fortuny mastercopy. in it's finished state.. it took me about 4-5 hours to complete.

Next are the SP's i did for Nov 1.. if you passed by the thread over at the FF section, then you maybe saw it.. i was one of the late posters!! Hope you enjoy.. The first is a digital portrait, done in about an hour. I liked the result, and was messing with different overlay layers, transparancies and textures layers (which i picked from my personal collection). The next one is an ink drawing, pretty quick, aobut 30 minutes (i took my time on drawing all those small individual lines)... it was an excercise in figurative abstraction.

    Hola Amigo,
the first study is nice. The left hand and the wrist are really really well done! You are improoving a lot every post, man.
I'm not a big fun of textures overlay, but your color portrait are cool, like the drawing under that layers ;-]
And from a designer point of view: nice pixel logo! Really dig it.

    Que dice man,
Liking a lot of the studies, very nice improvement in those and hope to see more. I actually dig the texture overlays on your SP, it quite makes it more interesting. The ink one reminds me to your ink bull piece, but somehow seeing this one next to the other, the ink one looks like an older version of you (it's the glasses! j/k)

    Keep it up bro.

I like the improvement on the figurtive stuff. i will have to keep my eyes on yer thread.

ICH - thanks bro.. about the textures, I like to experiment with them, but i'm very concerned when i overuse them. I have to concentrate on proper drawing and form creation rather than utilizing those "gimmicks". thanks again!

Maestro - gracias bro... i'm going to try and limit my use of textures. I feel that I'm guilty of overusing them. ha yeah, the glasses do make me look older than I actually am

Bhanu - thanks man I wont disappoint i hope

1st - Another copy from the master - enjoy. I did it today in about 4 hours
2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, - Pieces for an arts & culture magazine here in Ecuador. The article talks about the last days of the chilean poet Pablo Neruda, and his hobby of collecting stuff. Hope you like them... About the technique, to be concise - it's a mix of pencil ink washs and lines on a nice 250gram textured paper, and then I scanned it & started digital post processing in PS. The entire series took me about 16 hours to complete, not in one sitting.
