pricing question

What do consider is reasonable fee for a large full color poster with a couple of characters? Small business customer. Perhaps too difficult to answer as artist quality is a factor, but what would you charge.

I'll figure out for myself what I'll ask but it'd be nice to hear what would be reasonable for an american freelance artist, since that's where the customer is.

you should ask something like= It took me 30 Hours to do it and its x*x big...how much money can i punsh out of the image ?

Ok. It will most likely take 20 hrs and be about 21*35 inch.

pricing is very hard and also very personal.
Basically your art is only as much worth as someone wants toshed money for it.
That does not mean that it is negative. Quite often you'll find people fighting for your trashed scetchbook page whilest fully ignoring your best work, even if set down to a low price already.
Sou... back when I asked this question I was suggested 5$/hour as a beginner.
Then again it depends on the size of the artwork and how much time it will consume. Because the bigger the artwork does not mean the lower the price.
Personally I multiply size increase in flat art times 1.7, sculpture though 2.3.
Another good guideline is to see what the average worker gets per hour and take that as a guideline. On the other hand, never forget the fun and the soul factor: personally I'd rather be paid a few bucks less than be stuck at a supermarket.
So, basically all I can tell you is to add your material costs, coun the hours and at least, and I do mean AT LEAST, charge 5 bucks an hour (in my case I used 10, because in my country the average, lowest average, is 10), and then add your personal add on.
own work, decide how much it is worth to you and how much a stranger could consider it worth to him/herself. If you're new at this you may experience that noone wants to buy it or that you lateron realize that you sold it for waaaaay to less. Painful experiences, but you'll learn out of them. I guess everyone has been there.
And last, but not least, alaways remember that art is something you like to do (I suppose most of you feel the same here), and in a way it is also something you do for you. For your own value. If you roughly follow these ideas I think you wont be on a bad way.
Noone can give you an exact number, everybody may tell you something else.

Akeyla, thank you for taking the time to write such a lengthy answer. If I had been more clear when asking I could have saved you some trouble. I not new to the profession or asking money for my work. It's just that I don't sell that much to the states so I wanted some input to compare to my regular market.

But as I understand your answer to the question I should have asked would be $10/h. Worrying since that would be half what I'd ask even before adding for tax, but then again the dollar isn't what it used to be.
