Hey ann looks like you're taking a life drawing course or atleast you did keepit up the good work man. I can see your line work developing keep it going, and another thing that would help you out is maybe getting your hands on a book of the human anatomy it would be a worth while investment. keep drawing![]()
I really like your pen and marker work and the looness of your dynamic poses. Its really good to see some of your figure work, looking like your picking up the form pretty good. Keep drawing. Want to see more
Hi man![]()
Just had a look. God start on your sb dude.
The life drawings is looking nice ( i cant wait to get started myself again), nr 5 drawing in the first post is really nice, her breast is a little low and the butt seems a tad off giving her a very long back, but thast small time dude. Nice one!
Pay attention to the headstrukture a bit more when you draw portraits, everythings follows certent lines and this will make it easier to do, you tend to draw the ears and lips to small and such![]()
I like the inks, the last one is my fave, nice face on the wired dude looking up.
Keep doing this man!
Hey Aan,
Just took a stroll threw. Good life studies. The color work is a bit abstract. They also seem to lack volume. Don't listen to me though because I have been doing mostly pencil stuff, but from surfing this board and getting some knowledge, I'd say the color values and contrast needs some attention. They don't have the #D effect that the pencil and pen stuff has. Check some of the painting threads her and I'm sure they will help. Keep going. I'll try to keep up.
Whatever you do, don't look at my Sketchbook and Painting Thread!

Hey aan!
Nice sketchbook you got here, i recognice the life studies, i took a course (didnt finish it though) but i know how hard it can be to draw a 5 min study and so on, but you are doing great.
I particaly like the ink drawings and marker works (i really would like to have a set of those).
Keep them drawings coming, to get good one needs to draw all the time =) a really time consuming hobby hehe...
some creative ideas captured here. and some good studies. exactly what a sketchbook should be. I think that some the characters you are drawing form imgination seem a little stiff. a referance for poses might help
Here's one painting in PS that I was just fooling around with....tried to show more contrast, but I think the color is still messed up, or maybe just not enough contrast.

your drawings are pretty strong, but i wouldn't transfer over to color and painting just yet, that could be a big mistake when you are pretty close to really learning how to render in B&W and then to nearly relearn that with color and settle for a quality level that could have been achieved much easier.
Gregory - Thanks for the tip, I will keep it in mind.
santa - You are right my characters are stiff, I'll try to change it next time....its hard though haha.
hylandr2 - hey if you see anything wrong then I will listen and my teacher said my paintings need more contrast too.
Gridur - Thanks, yea I need to draw more still, I'm slacking off. The prismacolor markers aren't too expensive. I only buy about 5 markers of different opacity each time and they are around $10-12?
Fellah - thanks for the tips, I will keep these in mind when I draw next time. Oh and your SB is amazing =)
Darktwin - Thanks, I still need to work on my anatomy though
ashrumn - My lines are still sketchy sometimes, so I'm still working on that. I do have a couple bridgeman anatomy books but I should look at it more.
Small update....slacked off on these.

oooh now that is nice... maybe because i'm a sucker for black white and red; but the crispness of your stroke and the overall confidence is really showing through; sure you may have to map it out with some loose lines, but going over them with such a bold stroke really makes it pop, nice work.Originally Posted by aan

first ones were better.. but these look like they were made in a great hurry...
take your time and think about the form...
maby if you'll use ink to drow you'll pay more attention... try it
yea the painter/PS ones were done really fast, all my drawings are done in pen and i usually don't spend too much time on one drawing since the ones in my sketchbook are all practices. The first few posts were actually homework, class work,...etc so I spend more time on it.
I should try to spend more time on my sketches though, but usually the sketches that I spend a lot of time on aren't too good. Thanks for the advice and I'll keep it in mind.

icey, followed your advice of taking it slow and thinking about the form (for the 2 heads anyway).....I think it really helped, I just gotta do it more when I draw and paint.

Nice sketchbook.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...etchbook01.jpg - I like this one. There is very good line variety. Maybe you should pay more attention to rendering. You would get even more 3 dimensional forms and depth.
Keep it up.
Thanks for the advice Farvus....next time I sketch I'll try to render some of them, not all though since I'm a bum. Here are some Life drawing session that I attended today....some proportions are messed up and the face sucks. I feel these aren't better than the ones from before. These range from 30 seconds to 20 mins. Anyway, feel free to critic, I need it =).

these are good, Ann the proportions look really good to me you're a big contour but i like that i guess it comes down to preference. And about your heads they seem a bit small. Oh yeah i have a question how long were these poses? I guess i'm just curious
Thanks Ashrumm and I really need to stop just outlining the form in my figure drawings and think more about the structure of the body. The heads I really need help on.....usually I draw the head and I know it looks small....so I erase it and draw it again and still it seems to be too small. Sometimes I would do this 4-5 times before I give up. If anyone has any tips about making the heads look normal sized I would appreciate it. The first one is 30 seconds or maybe 1 minute. The 2nd one is 5 mins for each figure. The rest are 20 mins.

i have no great tip to draw the right proportions...
i know this problem, its the typical nude drawing phenomen:
you draw and draw...concentrate on a leg...draw and draw...erase here...erase there...draw, draw...ring: times up...and you look at the whole picture...DAMN...
to small head...one leg seems longer than the other...big anantomy failure at the shoulder...
dont mind...i hate my drawings a lot some time......although they are getting better and so will yours
ahh...another thing: when i hate my drawings most, i really get frustrated,
but then i dont care about any line -> boom...the drawing gets best !
keep drawing...wanna see moooohre
Khenu - haha I know what you mean. You described my problem perfectly.
Here are some stuff from my thursday figure drawing session and a couple pages from my SB.
Critic me if you have the time, thanks.

ooh... nice sketches. I agree that the more confident the lines the more pleasing the images.
Your gestural drawings and life drawings are great to see - I wish I had the oppurtunity to do life drawing classes. Keep pumping them out, I want to see more!

Thursday Figure drawing and some sketches....I really fucked up on the head on the first one.

Work that sketchbook it will pay big dividends ~~~ try to have a little more convention with your life studies ~~~ the sketchy line thing really shows a little timidness in dealing with the subject ~~~ you also seem to be going over the same lines several times on some poses !!!!!! analyze the model or whatever you are drawing each time you go through the pose look for new information to add and avoid going over the same line all the time>>>>>>>>> try to refine the lines each time through the drawing make them tell a better story not the same one only darker ~~~~ your structure seems fine the weight of the poses are very solid ~~~~ look for new information and let your line record it!!
aan - you're showing good progress in these pages here. do as mentler says, work in your sketchbook daily and you'll pick up speed qiickly. I hope to see you at the CT sketch group tomorrow night. there's directions to the NB diner in one of Helzon's posts (if you hadn't seen it already).

glikster- Thanks for the advice, it seems like a lot of people are saying I need to improve my lines and be more confident about them. It's something I will need to work on.
mentler- Thanks for the crits. I will definitely keep it in mind. Your SB is great btw.
bwkeough- Hey thanks for looking at my SB, I'm not very good yet but I'm glad you see some progress in these. I'll definitely see you guys next wednesday at the CT sketch group. I hope I don't go to the wrong diner again haha.

You have a lot of nice characters designs and ideas. I suggest slowing down from time to time and drawing something less sketchy. It might be boring but sketching some still life would help too. I've done a lot of that few years ago but maybe I'll return doing this.
Keep it up.![]()
