Mikes first sketches thread - small warning: some nudity

hey all, hehe as you can plainly tell i'm new here, certainly hope to make this place a familiar nesting ground (so to speak) lol

dont mind the 'michael katchan' text on them. felt i should do so as im uploading to photobucket and linking.

anyway, to the sketches. here's some somewhat recent stuff that hasn't yet been uploaded to my personal site, up for criticism and comments etc

me messing around with copic markers (new found love) and my trusty artliners

a demons portrait done with a rather blunt (had no sharpener >_<) pencil. i think it was 3b.. i could be wrong. drawn while waiting in the long line for the midnight screening of episode III, no less

more a WIP than a sketch, now, a copic colored artliner pic here

3 minute fun with a pen lol

artliner and a whiteboard marker here as i recall... i started to get quite sloppy at the legs and bottom. major focus was the body.

What i love about your sketches (appart from the sexy goar), your hands, they look very natural especialy with that wip.
But dam man that deamon head kicks monkey ass.
I know you got more of this stuff around that would be cool to see. so post some more here.

I really like how this seems exaggerated and still very controlled. First page is my personal favourite. Really love that robot and the figure in the bottom left.

here are two more sketches for you:

this page was all artliner again (i have a thing for those pens. no pencils), an antichrist concept, dark shadow-like figure and a wooden/mechanical crocodile.. thing.

Was listening to Jerk at one point whilest on the plane from Heathrow, London, to Hong Kong, and the lyrics inspired me to dish this guy out with the only pen i had with me at the time, some random blue inked biro.

Wow man, I really like your stuff. The color WIP on your first posted pic and the last green one are my favs. Like someone said previously, i love the way you draw hands which are, personally, the hardest part for me right now. Keep up the posting I wanna see more!

glad you're enjoying them, and yeah, im trying to maintain my own personal style with all that i do, although it is constantly evolving and changing.

here are some more n_n

just playing with colors and minimal use of linework as opposed to the copic markers. certainly fun to skrew around with

here's a copic piece that i did the other day and its definitely more a WIP than anything, any constructive thoughts on where to take this to next would be greatly appreciated, i'd love to finish this off and call it done - but i figure i could use all of your helpfull thoughts first =)

hehe and now that im getting out of this crappy course ill have loads of time on me to really focus on pumping out loads more, and working like a psycho on bigger final pieces as well. so expect a bit in a couple weeks ;D

this is amazing stuff, everything is so delightfully twisted. your characters are like a train wreck. great great work. have you ever tried playing with color discordance? i just got into it and i gotta tell you that it can be used so effectively, especially ontop of things as sharp as your stuff, its subtle but really effective, it confuses the rods and cones in your eyes into believing something else is really there, it can be used subtley or over the top. i'd be more than happy to expand if you would like to know a littel more. but my post is getting embarrasingly long

you've got some sick style! I'm really amazed. I love your dirty marker stuff, but the last grey and red thingy with the cleen shading is my favourite. I love those wings. Oh and the hellhound is great too. Such inspiring stuff here, really good.
