m00ftak: Hey, thanks for checking back. Your work has improved as well. I've been watching your SB and it's progressing nicely. Check back!

Alright here's some quickie studies. I threw in some female anatomy stuff as well.

    Hey all!

Did a concept sketch of a powersuit to warm up.

I'm putting arms and bodies to the wayside for some face studies. All of these are refs.

I'll be back tomorrow with more studies... Have a great day everyone.

Alright I had a busy night at work. So only one sketch today. This was based off of an import model, Linda Jade. I say based because I don't think it really looks like her. But good for practice.

Tomorrow I'll have some new studies of the arm, this time in depth. I plan to sketch on Vellum. If anyone has every drawn or drafted on this stuff, you know how awesome the material is. I will do a skeletal, musclular and skin overlay to be included into my studies. They will be placed so when you turn to the next page the next layer will show. Hopefully it won't be so busy at work so I can actually finish these. And if it is... hell I'll do up another import model

God created the woman, then darkchild drew them al. : )
You get the female body, but beyond your ladies, these muscle anatomy studies looks cool. (also in the name of drawing style)
Respect to your discipline and patience. Looking for more...

B-Man: Thanks for looking again. I really hope to improve more on my faces. I've been working on the bodies for years now, about time I got onto faces.

tgfx: Thanks man. Too bad I'm not really busy with the ladies in real life

schowalye: Much thanks for the kind words. I'm gonna be posting a lot more studies. I really need to improve on my anatomy and rendering.

silentkitty: Thanks for the props. I'm happy to hear that you think my works improving. I'm gonna keep going and hopefully improve even more. Yeah, I try to sketch every night at work. Thanks for checking and please come back often.

Well here are 2 face studies for the night:

I actually like the 2 lighter sketches better than the main render.

The shape of the face on this is a bit awkward, but I just noticed that one eye is higher....crap.... I'll just try harder tonight.

Thank you to all who wrote the nice words of encouragement and to all those who took the time to look. I'll be back again with some more sketches.

    hey DarkC,

Like the new stuff here, at its paying off with all these studies. I really like your firgures, men and women. The muscles look spot on, and so with the shading. Your drawings from mind look great also.

    Keep it up man!

qxzi: I appreciate the comments. I've been trying to improve on my faces lately. I realize I practice enough with the body. I'll hopefully get the chance to post up some studies of male facial features. I want to get as much studies in as possible. I'll be getting back to the fantasy stuff everyone's use to. Thanks and drop by again.

Hey everyone, it's been several days. I got sick with some kind of stomach thing. I took a couple of days off work and layed in bed it was so bad. I can't even describe how I felt.... well lets just say during that time I had considered moving the TV into the bathroom...

Well I didn't exactly get much done. I'm not fully recovered yet. Just well enough to think straight (relatively). I managed a face study.

    More work to come!

Hello. I love those studies of yours. Only thing I would crit is that I feel you tend to draw the upper arm too short. The relationship between upper and lower arm should be 3/2, The upper arm being 3 units long and lower arm 2 units. But before you go changin anything you really should check out an anatomy book, cause my advice as always could be total crap. I'll keep following your studies.
Btw... I don't see the proportional error on all the drawings, just in some of them.

Placeboast: Thanks for writing. I'll have to pay more attention when I'm sketching arms. I have noticed that when I make the arms bend the upper is somewhat small. Thanks for catching that. I'll get on it at once I'm glad you like the studies, there will be more. I plan to hit all areas of the body, male and female. Please check back often. Thanks.

Only got time for one study tonight. This of course is the male back structure. Ref'd from a magazine. I didn't get the time to place the names to the different groups. I tried to work more with values than line on this one. I'll post a sketch of a females back tomorrow. As always let me know what you think.

Hey thanks for visiting my book. You said it. Right now I'm obsessing with the tonalities and shading and all that. And I still have no clue. On your drawings, focusing on this last post of yours, you don't just splatter the colour everywhere, you seem to show the direction of the surface quite well and the muscle flow is great. I can see that you are growing as an artist nearly on every post so you are going in the right direction. Good job. See you soon.

Placeboast: I think you've got a good sense of direction on where you need to improve. Thats really important. As everyone always says more life observations and sketch lots. I've been drawing for over 20 years and still just mediocre with anatomy. Thanks for the praise. I hope to continue to improve this grade of work.

jttheanswer: Glad you like the women. I've been "studying" the female form for a long time. You're right about the head studies. Many have written that I spend more time on my bodies than the faces. Is that a crime? No seriously, I've got a couple of face and head studies up. I'll be doing more tonight. Thanks for writing.

Well I got some time to whip out 2 sketches last night. One is the female back structure as I promised and the other is another male back study but with the arm raised this time. Leave me any thoughts.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to look.

I found this ref pic to be pretty interesting study. It's guy in the middle of a lat pull down. That made for some interesting muscles to pop out and shadows created. Let me know what you think. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! I'm gonna be stuffing my pie hole:o

Nice sketchbook, I see you work hard to become better, that's very good.
Follow mentler's advice, that's the best u can do, because anatomy is the most important thing if you want to become better. I know it's very hard to learn, and if you ask me you never finish learning
    Keep it up! Nice stuff!

    Got another female back study:

OK it finally happened, I got bored of sketching. Can you believe that sh*t? Oh well, it was bound to happen sometime. So to make up for the time spent not sketching, I decided to mess with a photo that was taken of me. I made this into a wallpaper (1024x768) for my laptop. It was a refreshing change to my normal routine. I hope some of you like it. I'll get my ass in gear and get back into my studies on Monday. Have a nice weekend everyone

Busy last couple of days at work. I was still messing around with PS7 again. I'm not a narcissist but I like to experiment with photos and doing cool backgrounds for them. I use myself because I don't have any friends who are willing to pose for me yet. This was an idea that I've had for a while but was too lazy to get up and do. So here ya go:

Left side shows me reloading a the gun and flicking the slide closed.

I'm starting a new series of studies. I usually use a lot of shading and shadowing for most of my work. I decided to do the opposite and use simple light lines to convey my images. I placed a very small dosage of shading to bring out some of the more confusing parts. I hope you all like this. I'll be doing several more types of studies like the following.

Hylandr2: Well I usually have wallpaper of nekkid women but now that I take this laptop to work those types of pics aren't allowed I'll find something else to put up, I change backgrounds often.

More line studies from last night with minimal shading:

yo dude, youre improving like crazy, keep it up. one thing i would say, your faces are okay, but the eyes have been really flat. they dont go with the curve of the face and most times need to be put in some sort of perspective. on the next referenced face you do, really make sure you draw the eyes as you see them, not as you think they are...i think youll notice a big difference. as for the shading, i personally think you should add shading in your studies cause itll help you understand shading more and youll build up a library of shading techniques and patterns of how certain things are shaded in different lights and such. i know i suck at shading, and thats becuase i never took the time to do it. years of studies and almost no shading and now i have to go back and try to remedy that. so yeah, i would say shade as much and as often as you can. g'luck with work and looking forward to your next post. peace.

purb36: Hey how's it going? Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to write. Thanks for the great praise. I'm glad you think I'm improving. I had decided to do more line art only because all I use to sketch were figures with heavy shadowing. A slight change in my art diet is healthy for me. I will be studying up on my eyes as you suggested. But don't worry I'll be back with some more value studies really soon. Please stop by again

Alright 2 more sketches from last night.
Please ignore the face on this sketch this was purely for a value study. I did the entire sketch with a 6h pencil. I'll be getting back into darker pencils soon.

This was a ref'd sketch. I had originally wanted to do the face only but that left the paper kind of empty so I put as much of the figure in with a small amount of value to set it off.

Hey man, the shadowing on this second girl is all over the place. What I would like to see you do is the take a subject (of your choice) and shade it using multiple light sources. For example, one from the top. Next from the left side. Next from the right side. From the bottom. Then toss in a second source. Make it equal intensity. Then make it of secondary intensity. I think you will find that interesting and will find how the different sources change how the same subject looks. Try it out!!!

hylandr2: You know thats a really good idea. I'll get a study of that on my next post. Multiple lighting sources. The lighting for that piece was from a photo ref. Thats how I translated the rendering. I guess I need to pay more attention to the tones. But right now my main focus is the line. I've stepped away from dark shading for a bit. But I will get back into it.

OK one more for the weekend. This was a very simple piece. I really liked the pose so I borrowed it. Again some simple shading was thrown in. Have a nice weekend everyone. Thanks for looking.

Hey bud, you are improving so much!!!! Congrats on that. The anatomy looks fantabulous. Keep working on those faces, they still look a little weird. The eyes are too long and flat and they should be a little lower.. not that my heads are perfect or nothin, but if you have good eyes, then the rest will look better without changing it.

good luck can't wait to see more!
