Hey, new here, and a piece for critique

Hey guys, I"m knew here, my friend recommended me here to get some critiques, because I'll never improve without 'em. Here's a piece I did recently in Painter 8, please tell me what you think etc.

Parts are going well alone, but not together. Alwas look at the whole image while painting/drawing.

Welcome aboard. This is indeed a site where artists really care about each other's growth and well-being. Sometimes that means a nice butt-pat, but more often a harsh string of truths.

While I don't care for this piece, I can tell you put a lot of work in it and you certainly have potential (art is 90% work). If you want to focus on anime, that's fine, but in order to do so well, you need to be able to draw things correctly first. You can't consistantly alter the rules successfully without knowing them. My advice would be to start studying anatomy. While you're working through that, also tackle light and how it creates values, which define shapes. Further along, a good understanding of compostion would help out and then, perhaps some color theory. It's a field as broad and deep as any you can imagine and you have a pretty good start. Starting a sketchbook abd joining a sketchbook support group should also help you along the path. The tutorial section is packed with great examples, there's a fantastic one here, and there seems to be no lack of activities to involve oneself in.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.
