I'm just curious...
For me, it rotates between Millencollin, The Streets, MC Chris, listening to HGTV or the Food Network since that's the only channels we get...

Right now:
Rock & Roll Soldiers
Sugarcult
Bowling for Soup
Audioslave
Nightwish, Yoko Kanno, Boa, RES, and Blueman's Group
(liquid) Drum & Bass, Lounge, Deep House, Brazilian Rock, UK Garage
I have a rather ridiculously extensive and varied MP3 playlist (and yes, I own the majority of them on CD!).
I always have my music on in the background regardless of modelling, texturing, drawing, painting or playing games. In the space of an hour it's likely that I'll have listened to a range of anything from Rage Against the Machine to Rachmaninov, via The Killers, Radiohead, Steely Dan, Metallica, Grandaddy, Pink Floyd, A Perfect Circle, The Kinks, Simon & Garfunkel... the list could go on for many pages, but it would be pointless.
If I started my playlist from the very beginning and let it run through all the songs, it would be 17 days before it reached the last track. Tasty!
Permanent items in my I Tunes:
Miss Kittin & the Hacker
Miss Kittin
M83 (This is the very hot)

Demon Hunter
Ornella Vanoni
Catch22
All of AFI

Ensiferum (one of the best conceptual metal bands ever... they play real viking metal... songs about wenches and pillaging and battles.. it's a trip)
BB King
Foreigner
and I've officially added that song from the laser grid scene in Ocean's Twelve.
A slew of bands on Tooth & Nail and SolidState records.

i try to play something that fits to the mood of my drawing... so there's a lot of variety in what i listen to.
i mostly listen to rock music.
recently especially:
otep
marilyn manson
korn
limp bizkit
tool
and if i don't listen to that i listen to whatever is on my pc or sometimes knac.com
can range from madonna to deftones to jamiroquai to basement jaxx to rage against the machine to metallica to incubus to anything.
sometimes i also enjoy a good classical cd (beethoven), destiny's child(esp.kelly rowland),sugababes or some jazz.

Always think about:
lighting! design! perspective! proportion!
And (self)motivation is still everything.
Lately - Been listening to a wierd mix while I work
Usually starts with some badass Prefuse 73 -
then chill out with some badass composer like Steve Reich or Phillip Glass
then pump it up with some Buzzcocks or Motorhead
then mix in some Fourtet...quite a talent
Then perhaps I'll treat the audio to some Squarepusher or AphexTwin

I'm kinda singleminded.... I like music while I work but I never remember it.
Paul Rhye
Sometimes metal:
Fall of Troy
Poison the Well
Atreyu
Avenged Sevenfold
The Fucking Champs
Iron Maiden
Helstar
Evergreen Terrace
Soilwork
Darkest Hour
the first Taproot cd
Hawthorne Heights
and Sometimes other stuff:
Bjork
Radiohead
flamenco
david bowie
stereolab
boards of canada
it's usually one extreme or the other, they don't mix well.
Iron Maiden yes!!
normally I don't listen to music, it's sort of a distraction to me sometimes. If it's quietand in the background then it's ok. I like lounge/soft house/jazz. obscure rock bands.
Someone once told be that the ultimate abstract art is music which is purely instrumental. I came to find out that some of my best ideas come from music that influences me in a manner other than literally. Thus, I try to listen to music that is more melodic, if not entirely without lyrics.
Some of my favorites include:
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Mogwai
Sigur Ros (Lyrics often unintelligible due to either language, or the volume at which they are sung. Also, lead singers' voice becomes an instrument of it's own, moreso than an vocal overlay on the music)
M83
Juno Reactor
Doves
Depeche Mode
Kenna
The Crystal Method
The Chemical Brothers
Requiem For a Dream OST (incl. remix album)
MGS 2 OST
Halo (1 & 2) OST
Brian Eno
Daft Punk
Of course, there are a ton of other bands that I have in my playlist that see some airtime pretty frequently. Some of them are:
The Streets
Cake
Snow Patrol
Spiritualized
Hooverphonic
Outkast
Arcade Fire
LCD Soundsystem
Jedi Mind Tricks
David Gray
Dntel
The Postal Service
The Faint
Interpol
Frou Frou
Jimmy Eat World
Morrissey
NIN
Radiohead
Zutons
Wyclef Jean
Royksopp
-and of course-
William Shatner
Mostly indie for me ::
Cold play
The Shins
Postal Service
Logh
Radio Head
Pixies
Tenacious D
Tortoise
Bright eyes
Nick Drake
Belle and Sebastian
Billie Holiday
Primus
Nothing but pure chillin'...
Off the top of my head:
Buzzcocks
Violent Femmes
Pixies
Led Zeppelin (especially IV)
Radiohead
Mos Def
Beastie Boys
Tribe Called Quest
Weezer (first two albums)
Amon Tobin
Neutral Milk Hotel (this makes the dogs next door howl - much to the amusement of my girlfriend)
The Go Team!
Walkmen
DJ Shadow
RJD2
Philip Glass
Beatles
White Stripes
The Shins
Of today's up and coming popular beat combos I think Kaiser Chiefs are pretty good. And the Chris Morris Radio 1 shows from 94 are a goldmine of good music and anarchic comedy (tm). But The Streets? That right there is the emperor's new clothes for me.
