Hot shit! Man I wish I could draw the figure like you!
To answer your questions, I'm studying Illustration at Westminster Uni. No they hate anything that isn't experimental (read: crap), but I do it anyway to piss them off!! : ]
Oh, and those 4 paintings were all pure digital Painter IX.5, thanks for your kind words. : ]

Awesome updates, are you in college or Uni?

    Peace

I think your latest speedie shows an incredible improvement, particularly with lit planes. Before, there was a tendency to light too much. Keep the value contrast on unimportant things low, the clouds in that one detract a little bit from the painting as a whole... if you cropped it to the half with just the ships, the composition suddenly becomes much better.

That robot and your drawings are awesome, and very imaginative as well!

oishiiniku: cheers mr carver! feel like i am moving forward with these acrylics. fun!

cartoonfox: cheers mate, you could do it to, just practice! loving your stuff lately. good for you to do what you want. once you finish uni it does make you look back and wonder quite what the hell you were doing half the time you were there! good work on those paints: they really had us guessing: i thought they were scanned paint. i was at uni but i graduated 4 years ago now. did a degree in fine art at the birmingham institute. did well, had fun and made some life long friends but have been playing catchup ever since to the skills they didnt teach us. no regrets though, i really loved that period of my life.

Meatsworthy. cheers for the crits. your are absolutely right and i will be paying lots of attention to planes in my sp from now on. i really love the results that you are acheiving in your digipaints: excellent and inspiring. i dloaded m@'s brushes tonight so i will be playing with them and switching to pshop for a while...

res: heres a little update mate. where are you ? loved your big fat article in edge mate. made the cover and the back. excellent work. you are a hero!

Great job on that life painting, Jake! Excellent sense of lighting. I really like the slightly abstract nature of the colour/strokes on his right leg, too.

Oh man, is that a green monkey with wings? Awesome.
    http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f8...onkeybird1.jpg

Your colors among everything else have come a long way since the beginning, kudos mate! I'm liking your style for sure, some crazy outfits but that's a good thing.

With your colors, it looks like you are lighting everything with a cool light - heading towards white as it gets brighter. For variety or just in general I think you might enjoy some warm light - try heading towards the top right corner 100s 100b as you add light. Don't over do it, it doesn't need to end at 100s 100b of course. Also you might think about hue shifts as you warm/cool a color down. Just some thoughts.

Ssee, this one is your "warmest"

    hi guys,

    MattiasA: thankyou very much!

Idiot Apathy: thanks very much indeed. it is very nice to get some proper constructive criticism. it is much appreciated. i will try and put the warm coloursinto practice. still trying to get a hold on painting effeciently and thoughtfully. i think you have hit the nail on the head in terms of saturation in bright parts i do tend to automatically head top left now that i think about it.

Ostrander: thanks so much for the encouragement! i finally feel like i am making progress these days. it just a matter of working away at it and having fun. i am trying to improve across all fronts rather than just get real good at at just a few things

lukavi: nice to see you in here again. means a lot to me to have someone whos work i love as much as yours frequenting my book. your use of flowing line gets better and better: that last chow you busted out had oishiiniku and i salivating away this morning. looking forward to more of your stuff! the reason i am doing so much with this girl is because i am working on a specific project. i have one more image to do and then i shall get on with other stuff. i have really enjoyed her but am starting to flag a bit just working on one thing for such a long while. i rarely finish stuff though so i am glad to have buckled down on this.

okay update time. not a proper update per say as i have been busy reworking the kaplinski drawings following crits from my fine fellow artists. i think that they are much more solid now. particualy te foreshortened one. any further crits? C&C always welcomed.

Sweet speedie. I also missed your last update, action-packed. I like how you put streaks of bold colors against the desaturated backdrop. That karate dude in blue is really popping. Good stuff!

wow. you've really came into your own with these last few batches of paintings. those girls in the crazy outfits are great. i like the girl on the top left- she's not painted as 3d as the others, which almost seems to fit that style of drawing more to me (fantastic pose too btw). but on the other hand you did a fantastic job painting the girlie on the bottom right. gal on the bottom left- the buttons rule. way to be man. keep up what you're doing mr.
