    anticasper:thanks very much!!
MattGamer: cheers matt. My mother in law is improving day by day so things are looking great now!! The sword fight is just made up without any direct reference.
Updates: this weeks speedies, the sewer village was a 2 dayer so 40mins. The robot in the shade i went over time on so 30m mins, the dark forest i used loose ref from last of the samurai (decided using stills from films is a fine idea indeed!)
Lastly is WIP entry for chow 105.

he he! yes! movie stills are fun to use because they've already been figured out by a DOP (director of photography) and all you have to do is learn the concept behind the scene and implement that into your images. which you are doing very well.

it's ok to go over your limit sometimes. i try to keep my limit under 20 minutes as well, though some images require over an hour because of their coolness. hehe

Great job on the CHOW, dood! The flow through the female character is really good and the clouds are a nice touch. I think the straight, even lines extending from the sun are maybe a bit jarring with the rest of the linework which is sort of sumi-e inspired, right? It's a minor point, though. Just noticed the boy's sword is looking a little droopy, too.

You're on a roll with the speedpaints, as well. The lighting on the guitar/ninja/robot piece is really effective. The sense of distance on the sewer town pic is well achieved but there's nothing there to really suggest the scale of the scene. Some recognisable windows/doorways/chimney pots etc. or figures being repeated into the distance would really help with that, I think.

Like I said, though, you're on a roll - keep on keeping on!

    Ta, Nick.

cheers mr reject d. You still have not sent me that form to fill in mate! Will pop by your sketchbook later on!
I have been doodling for sominance war (these are mostly for the 3d entry but some are for the concept entry too. My wife got me one of those moleskine sketchbooks for christmas and i started using it a couple of weeks ago. I have to say its ACE! great to draw on (biro all the way!) and really good to scan from compared to other larger books i have had before. Some of the heads are reffed from the wonderful civilwarphotos.net website.

Great update, fella! Makes me want to get back to drawing in a proper sketchbook. The thumbnail pages are great - chocful of ideas and funky shapes. Your moustache fetish is reaching dangerous proportions, though. SEEK HELP.

Yes! I am an official fan of your moleskine! They are so fun to play with and they have a cool secret pocket that you can put money or food in.

The ideas flowing through your brain are astounding. Thanks for sharing sir!

    Hey Jake,

I totally forgot to look for your sketchbook after meeting you guys at the MZR showing the other month and now I'm kicking myself not checking it sooner.

Brilliant work, I really like the large number of thumbnails that you do... inspires me to work on my own!

    Anyways hope all is well,

Kian: cheers fella, i actually moved back home yesterday, my mother in law is out of hospital now and is making an excellent recovery. Things are getting back to normal now so if you guys up north fancy it then i reckon we should sort out another meet up! Did your last one in manchester go well? sorry to have missed it!

MonkeYoakum: ha ha thats good! I just checked my pen its called the 'staedtler triball plus M' my most esteemed colleague RES got me hooked on them a few years back!

aefx: nice to see you in here mate, hope things are going well for you. I love thumbnailing. Its free and fun and really helps me to hit on new things + you get the joy of hapy accidents.

Andy Nicho: long time no see mr nicho, i will pop along to your book and take a look! Cheers for the stars!

I got home last night and took some (rather shoddy) photos of some life paints from january. They are 1 hour to 2 hours each. They are done in water based oils which are nice!

Im not really sure the context that the civil war style catapillar man is supposed to be put in, but I think we should see less flesh, or maybee some suspenders. Somthing that defines that era to me is stinky people wearing a lot of wool. Maybee a little more of a tone change on the light side of the mustache, but great stuff none the less. Really unique design definatly leaves me wanting more.
