    I like Brom

    Hey guys

    Did this over the weekend.

Like everyone, I love Brom. So I took some of his influence and ran with it. Dont ask what those things on the ground are. I dont know myself. Some kind of big dead bugs I guess.

I see this dude as kind of a tortured good guy like Spawn or The Maxx. Those kind of characters really appeal to me.

    Wow! Another great one, Hawkprey!

This mask or whatever...the way it's hanging down looks great! I love the rendering of his skin...

This guy must stink, that the bugs are dying...

How about a dynamic pose in the next one? The poses of the figures yet as far as i remember were quite static...

I agree with Fozzy. Superb rendering. I even like the pose. It makes hime look more evil. Although a dynamic pose would be very nice too.

I'm not sure what i think of the gloves/lowerarm things. I guess I rather see some nicely drawn and rendered arns for that.

    Great texturing on the pants..

Amazing! Great one, Hawkprey. No critiques here. One suggestion, though. What if you upped the contrast in the sky, a la Frazetta? It seems to be mostly middle values right now.

Have you ever played Final Fantasy X? There's a aeon in there named Anima who fits in with the tortured good guy genre of characters. The design and animation of that guy is incredible... like most of the stuff in that game.

personaly i think brome is obserdly overrated just another dark stuff artist with no know how on setting up a composition...

"Personally, I think Brom is an absurdly overrated, dark stuff artist who has no knowledge of composition."

MUCH better and, Joshua, you never cease to amaze me.

Hawk - BEEYOOTIFULL!!! I really like this. My only comment would be the texture or filter in the background. I would suggest taking it out or off. Your image is WAY too nice and I, personally. think it detracts from the image a little.

    hey thanks guys

That damn background! hahahahha. I will see what I can do to clean that up.

I know Brom is all over the place. I cant help but like his stuff. Kinda like listening to the Back Street Boys I guess. So popular its now cliche'.

Dont worry,,,,,, I am not a fanboy. I hate copying people. I just let his influence take over in some of my artistic decisions with this piece.

    You do?!?!

That's either very promising... or very frightening.

AND I'd love to see your drawing of Fool. That sounds VERY interesting...

    Thumbs up

Great work Hawk! Of coarse I like it because I'm a huge Brom fan.

I also think the background hurts the image a bit but I really like the shadow on the center block. What if the block was enlarged to fill out the entire background?

I think the character has really nice style to him. The vertical length of the chest is the only thing that bothers me, but that’s very minor. Maybe try shortening it.

Overall I think it’s a successful piece and I look forward to your next.

Ohh, aww. Great piece, but if the guy's head is looking down i would forshorten his chin more and lower the nose - it looks funny. But still a great piece!

    Great Work!

Great work! Although I must admit I don't know who "Brom" is... I would love to see more of your work and if any one can enlighten me on Brom, it would be much appreciated.

    Keep up the good work!

Not only is Broms works thematically consistent and interesting, but in my view he is fantastic with light/dark composition (contrast placement) and colour. I recommend buying Darkwerks, and Offerings, and study (it's what I'm doing now)... Doesn't matter if he's set a standard for the whole rpg industry (which might make him "cliché"), delve into it anyway. I, at least, find a lot in it which I can bring into my own stuff without recycling his themes.
