The edges of different clothes aren't as distinct as I'd have liked but I got distracted by the TV while I was doing it. Poor attention today.

As much as I know some guys like this kind of stuff...Im getting sick of it spitting out D&D chars. Someones tampered! lol

machzero: The body is okay appart from the groinal area (NOT THAT I WAS LOOKING! lol) and the face looks slightly off to me.

vaughany_boy: The whole thing is pretty good appart from the expressionless hand at his side. It could be doing at least something. You seem to be very comfortable with pencil but I think you should branch out into pens aswell, even if you may not like it at the beginning.

yaso khul: Its all good but it seems a bit quick and rushed. Although this is only a DSG of course.

Good point. I thought the hand was boring as I did it. I do quite like using biro but that's about as far as I've tried ink, so maybe I'll have a go for tommorrows dsg.

    thanks for commenting Ixari.

I'll prolly clean it up further if I do continue (...maybe...) on the pic. There's a whole lot more of equipment/patterns I wanted to add. Thanks for the comment.

    More D&D

That said, I really need to work on drawing (and get some crits!), and if I get enough work done today I will post something, but ugh. Talk about uninspiring...

Charra Stonekeep, on a last minute checkup of all her hidden gear, before trying to charm, swindle, hustle, and if all else fails, cut her way through the Sheik's palace, grab the sandhawk and get as far away as possible.

Sorry guys, nothing came out today. . .I'm trying to use someone else's lcd right now, and I literally cannot see colors at _all_. (excuses, I know) Respect to those who were more successful than me:

machzero : I know you've probably heard this waay too many times, but you might find some assistance from the loomis books (head and hands, particularly) in terms of the lines around lips, eyes, and other facial features. I think a large part of the reason that her facial features look a little crude is because you're continuing the outlines all the way around each feature. If you check out some other people's line drawings, I think you'll see what I mean.

vaugh : beware of describing the wrinkles in his coat with the same thickness lines you used for the outside; usually it will look bad. . .any lines inside the silhouette should be super light compared to the outline.

yaso : nice would probably benefit from a stronger, more dynamic composition for such a dynamic pose and action

lukavi : wow, just rocks. Love the stylization and line quality. I think the totally flat black across the bottom detracts from the image (especially where it reaches totally desaturated black, but that could be this crappy display), but you seem to do it fairly often, so I'm sure it's a conscious choice.

hamsta : Although the figure centered in the canvas would usually be super bad, I think you managed to pull it off quite nicely. . .lower leg proportion isn't quite right. OMG nipple 8)

Hope I'm not being presumptuous here, commenting without submitting anything myself, but the digipainting really wasn't happening today. I may bang something out at the last minute tonight. Just wanna say again, mad props to everyone that got something out there for this topic!

Machzero, I think your trademark faces will look better if you align the ear properly to the head, I think it sits too low on the head, it should line up with the eyebrow and the bottom of the nose.. more or less.
Help your fellow artists get better.. Post a critique today!!!

The full figure image is much closer to what I wanted, the close-ups are actually zoomed in, wanted to show some work in progress. The face close-ups are actually larger (~125%) than the original resolution which I used. The crude face outline is actually a 4 pixel brush.

But I got what you mean... if I have more time, I plan to drop the opacity of the lineart layer a bit. Either that or spend some time to define the edges without the lineart.

I would look at some loomis, but right now I got about 1.5 hour a day to do some doodling. Art remains a side hobby.

charcoalArtist> gotcha... was angling the head upwards a bit, figured that'll drop the ear a bit. Not too much apparently. P.S. I tried a different face this time... heheheh.

    Thanks for both comments~!

eh.. I dont have time to work on this any more. I have to go to sleep (I work Graveyard)

Charge - What dice are you rollin to do that?! Nice sketch.

Lukavi - I like this one.. like the paper look of it. Though the structure of the skull is off in quite a few places. Maybe study skull structure a bit. (not to say that Im perfect either )

Yaso Kuhl - I like the fact that she reads as a female really well. Very feminine.. But strong. And I like the costume alot. Some anatomical corrections could be made.

Machzero - A decent drawing. Some anotomical corrections needed as well. The face is not very pretty. And try to avoid drawing lines around the lips. Maybe a more dynamic pose? Im hard on you because I see alot of potential.

You can hide a lot of drawing flaws with dramatic, mysterious shadows.

This one, I just couldn't resist. I'm wondering if anyone around my age or older recognizes this character.

And a slight hint, if it matters: Flats

Awesome work by everyone as always.

Matt Dixon - Awesome piece. Alleyway, dark shadows, hooded cloak - definitely the most thiefly piece so far. ('Thief' is what a rogue used to be, I guess.) My favorite part is actually the hands. The victim's face is a bit wonky, but now it was a quick paint-job.

Dark-wraith - you took an interesting approach, but it looks to me like you're using your Dodge tool to create shadows. An easier, more effective basic approach would be to use multply layers.

teyekanik - I really like this painting, but it looks more like a warrior than a thief - to my eyes, anyway. In any case, I really like the piece overall. Great character design.

Panagos - Another really nice painted piece. I like what I can see of the anatomy. I think a lot of the colors you used hide too much of the character, though. I think the character lacks a little femininity (esp. around the hips) and I'm not sure how effective the long skirt would be when the poo hits the fan. But - if it was MY painting, I'd probably print it out and frame it.

Ahh, there's jkior - I really dig the lack of details, usually - but in this case, its just too much of a mystery as to whats going on. I can tell that the foreground character is the subject, and I like the way I can only barely make out his crossbow (hope I'm seeing that correctly)..but in this case, either the foreground or the background needs more details so we can have a better idea of whats happening in the piece. The fact that you still got a pretty dynamite submission up on a day you felt like you couldn't get it going is impressive, though.

lukavi - I'm in love with your backgrounds.

Undefeated - this is my right arm. if you can figure out how to teach me kick-ass stylistic stuff like that, you can have it.

matt - So good! That's quite a highlight for a drop of blood. It does work though.

fes - that thing is still freaking me out.

I remember that in the old 1st/2nd edition ad&d there was a crazy bunch of attention spent on thieves as acrobats. I remember tightrope walking as always being one of the more laughable skills possible in a world where characters usually end up battling demigods using an arsenal of artifacts. Nonetheless, tightrope walking always seemed to end up on the record sheet.

So, here's a tightrope walking rogue

too much fun with the Grainy Sketcher pen in Painter IX
