This may be the last post for a few days due to vacation is paradise. So, I figured I'd do a life study of my favorite model. Crits welcome as always.

And look, now on page two...yeah!!!

Page 2 alright!!! Thats a great pose. I noticed you have a tendency to make your faces too pointy. I do it all the time. I probably still do but I started to study facial shapes when I worked at an optical place. Part of my job was to fit frames to faces. I started to notice that face shapes were drastically different. You should experiment with faces such as round, oval, cylindrical, as well as trianglular. It will give you a new perspective on faces. The pose is great, good rendering around the hips and that blanket or towel is well done. You got the folds and creases right on. Great work. I'll expect to see more from you after your trip. You should be well rested and brimming with ideas. Have a great vacation! Later!

Hey DC, yeah, I probably should do some experimenting with different face shapes. I did a little with the post today, but I should do more. I start my classes on Monday, so I will have to see how much time I have to play.

Berf, thanks. I have always liked MacFarlane.

Here is my work from my plane trip last week. I thought it would be cool to have Bats and Joker as theather masks.

Hey, those are some nice sketches .

I think you know how to shade, now is a matter of learning how to shape. One mistake I always made (and still somewhat do now) is to do the shading as I go. I found that if you map out the blacks and halftones first, you get a much better understanding of the bulk of the object/person you are trying to draw. Once you've done that, you can start shading.

ANd also, make sure to extend your tones! It's all in a range of gray right now, don't be afraid to contrast!

And lastly, but certainly not leastly, what you would expect anyone here to say: Keep drawing!
The advantage of being a beginner is having a much greater amount of teachers.

Now that is cool. Love the masks. It's a healthy change from your normal sketches. I've started to paint environment stuff to get some more practice on the WACOM. It's a refreshing change. Nice to see you back and posting.

Hey EmmDoubleEw, thanks for coming by. I have been trying to push my values to farther ends of the range. Hopefully that will give me better contrasts in the pencils.

DC, Always a please. I am about to purchase my WACOM, so let's see how that goes.

Hey Cobi girl, vacation rawked. Beautiful beaches and great pineapples!!!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. School work is keeping me really busy. I got the opportunity to simply do a quick sketch or a Burmese leaning shack. Hopefully I will be able to get some more pleasure drawing in.

Sorry for the resolution. It wouldn't fit on my scanner.

Hey, I'm glad to see your work again. This is an impressive piece. I like the details that you have put in the surroundings to bring out the main tower. Very nice shadow on the right side. I have never heard of a Burmese leaning shack before. Are they built like that on purpose?

    Hey Dark,
From what I understand, this piece of architechure is and enterance gate rather than a dwelling. The "roundish" columns I believe are called stupas and they are at the entrance to a buhdist temple.

On a separate note, I just ordered my WACOM today, so I will start posting some digital stuff as soon as possible.

    Hey DC,
The project was about taking a realistic object and changing it until you an unrecognizable abstraction. I finally got to use the india ink pens that I bought for inking comics.

I order the WACOM on Monday and it won't be here until Wednesday of next week. Don't ever order anything from PAGECOMPUTERS.COM. They seem really slow.

DC, thanks for the kind words. I posted this pic in the Critique center and they kicked my ass. That is what I wanted, so now I have to try and make this better or start again. We'll see.

    Cobi girl,
Hey darlin', I am going to assume that you are serious and not pulling my leg about the WACOM. It is a digital drawing pad that you connect to your computer which allows you to control the curser on a painting program like Photoshop or Painter. Hit wacom.com to take a look. If you weren't serious, see my avatar title. Says it all. As far as IMO, I know I have seen it, but I'm brain dead at the moment.... I just looked it up. "In my opinion" ??? Thanks for the nice praise on the water drops. I learned that I did them wrong after I finsihed them. I should have put the shadows down first and then built the lighter colors on top. I didn't do that.

I'll post again when I can. Later all...

that's pretty neat! and unfortunately, I was serious about not knowing anything about it.. ;( I'm not much of a digital art person. I know how to use 1 program and that's it! keep up the great work =)

I know it sounds hard but... Back to basics, get a plastic skull or a skelleton and start drawing it. I know its fun to draw cool poses and lovely ladies but in order to get where you want you need to do the boring studies. I bet there is not one great comic artist that havent spent hours drawing skulls, hands and feet. You can also go to museums and draw statues thats a great way (and fun) to do studies. I'll be back fore more so keep posting!
    Cheers!

DC, Thanks man. Not all of the school stuff is interesting, but I guess I am learning. The teacher is a nazi though.

    QXZI,
I really want to get better at the WACOM stuff. I think that the key is going to be to learn photoshop better.

    B-Man,
Boring studies is all I am doing in class these days. Here is one for you. It's some dynamic fruit...IN ACTION!!!!

Here is a quick mushroom sketch I tried to paint. Failed miserably. Plus a still life from class.

DC, nah man. It is graphite. I have only done one charcoal in my whole life.

Here is an update. Sorry it is taking so long. This is a portrait done for drawing class. I am not happy with it at all, but I learn from every mistake.

    Here is the charcoal:

    Edit:
    I fixed some things.

Hey long time no post! I thought you had given up on this site. Very nice update. I assume that second pic would be the first ever charoal post? Looks good. I do have a small crit for the portrait. It's the hair, it's still looking a bit plastic. Maybe bring out some of the strands a bit and not have it so bunched together. I'm not saying hair couldn't look like that, but when rendering in greyscale as opposed to color the tone portrays the depth of the piece. I'm having a lot of trouble mastering this myself but like you I'm striving to improve on this. the rendering of the skin is really smooth and clean and the greys in the backdrop is done well that it brings out the lightness of her skin tones. I like that you brought out some great dark shadow areas on her as well. Seeya later, keep posting

hey man the rendering on that portrait is looking very nice, but the eyes are not level. Lay a ruler accross her eye line and you'll see what I mean.
I like the Color and Design project that's pro looking stuff.

DC, yeah, my hiar renders suck rocks. I got some tips from a fellow student. I hope it is better on this next one.

    Hey Gilead,
Thanks for coming by. Yeah, the portrait was a choice for a final drawing for class. I learned alot from this pic. For one thing, never draw on a large sheet on a flat surface. The perspective goes all off. I put what I learned from it into a self portrait. Here is the rough sketch and the finished product. If the resolution is bad, I can try rescanning.
