Part of my uni work - a creature sculpture! First time at it. Is meant to have anatomical characteristics of big feline, canine, deer and reptile, kind of a mishmash but a smooth blend as opposed to a parts-stuck-together kind of beast. Starting with bad cameraphone pics of the wire armature. I nearly poked my eye out a few times with bits of wire flicking up at me whilst trying to wind and twist them together.

After foiling the armature I covered it with a thin layer of Super Sculpey, just for the base form. All lumpy to start with. He's about half a metre long (50cm), and only has about a third of the back of his head, poor guy.

Worked on it up until yesterday, bulking more bits out with the foil (shoulders, flanks, neck, parts of hind legs), and then layering over again with another thin layer of Super Sculpey.

I am trying to pay attention to the larger muscle groups for accuracy and symmetry of the form. I have a fair way to go yet, see how it goes in the next two days methinks.

HK, yeah the creature sculpture process thread he has is fantastic in detail, it's one of the few reasons I have even the slightest forward direction on my own sculpture I think.

First up I've started attacking the "Draw from the 'What do you look like?' Thread!", watch out you cameralovers. This is Yor.

Back to me sculpture. Very slow going on this guy, fixing proportions and generally trying to properly flesh his body out more naturally. More updates as I work on him

Hey iolarnula, great sb. Diggin the nuclear ghosts stuff the glowing insides with the disappearing mist is looking cool. Chaos beast is looking great think it would've looked even better if you'd work the sky and background a bit more but i really dig what you got going on in the foreground. Keep it up last couple of posts have been looking great!

I guess a lot of this still looks too rough, but I sure learnt a lot in the process of making them on a regular basis. There's still so much more I need to learn though.

Hi iolarnula!

I'm liking your sketchbook. The value studies can only end up being good for your progress.

I'd love to see a value study pushed a little further though. I think you're value ranges could be pushed a little more.

Also, your edges see to be a little uniform all over. There doesn't seem to be any 'sharpness' in any areas. I think some areas and edges could be defined a good bit more.

Regarding edges and values, I think they're my biggest problems to date

No matter how I start a study out, it always seem to end up being to soft by the end of it, and loses any punch it may have had to begin with. Hopefully I can address this as I beef up my practice in the coming months.

The last of my uni work to post (apart from my Orderbeast maquette, which I'll pick up from uni on monday), just some Chaos desert environments. Chunky?

Pezzle: I'm more a draw-stuff-around me and from various images, only really done some life drawing as far as real models go heh heh. I do carry a few books around.

some more deftness and confidence in your lines in the newer stuff too or maybe just seems that way to me.

I love the skull dog too.
