    Fin - 1 APR 11 - x1

1st April 2011: Check latest post for new pix (1).

    ---------------------------------------------
    This stuff's pretty old

December 2004: I've been building up an alien race since 2002. This is an old sketch I should fix up, but I never get around to doing it :p I need to redo his torso and legs.

    Stuff from February 2005:
I just got a tablet (yay). WIP shot of my first real try at digital 'painting'. You can see the finished version here. I suck at BGs.

Silly little page o' props! I never got around to finishing this.

Random torso, no refs. Futzing about with the new tablet.

Wolves; simple sketches. Done from photos.

I've been doing life drawing classes recently and more photo sketches, but with Mr. Scanner out of action I can't show 'em.

    So, um, critique away.

    Thumbs up

Don't be apprehensive, there is no need. Your works very well. And your seventeen. It means you have a lot of time to improve your capacity. My only crit is about second picture. The half of background is emty so it seems this work not completed. Do you think to put there something? If you don't you can cut there, but if you ask me, another bird could be there. Keep on working my friend.

    ooopps!!!
I didn't see the link to finished picture. But if you ask me again, a bird could be there instead of the landscape.

    Pretty nice bach of works, Im likeing this;
specialy the blue Griffon, as far as critics goes
the "arm less torso" study has sum problems In the
way you attached the deltoids to the
clavicle & shoulder blades bones, you see the deltoids
goes over the pectorals; you drawed 4 seccions in the abdominals
but they are only 6 muscles there, take a look to Kevin Chen´s studies
they are great for you to start develping a solid construccion
    metod for your figures:

mert_yavasca: Thanks The landscape was done last, so I rushed it (I'm not very good at them...). I'll work on them more.

rodrigo!: Hey, thanks. Vis Comm is really good so far, especially the drawing course I am doing. I replied in your sketchbook thread with some more info.

maxetormer: That's a sweet critique I'll go and check his stuff out now, thankyou!

    Lightbulb More schtuff.

My scanner's fixed, so here's what I've done recently. Just the one for now, trying out this 'realism' thing. I used photos as reference, of course A wolf, two tigers, and an unfinished coyote. Maybe I should have tinkered with the levels in Photoshop a bit more :p

Two from a few days ago! And an old one. For some reason I can't get them to scan well.

Sketches: I let my hand go on a piece of paper. When stuff started looking like I should put some perspective in it I was like "Argh, crap." I tried :p Anyway - a crow, my head, some random dragonthing, a ship, another person, and a building scene. I want to do some other pics with that building in it, maybe better ones, hehe.

Terrible anatomy sketches. The bottom pose is referenced from Burne Hogarth's "Dynamic Figure Drawing." I have a loooooong way to go

Old, unfinished; I think I scrapped this in March sometime. Haliaeetus Leucogaster, the white-bellied sea eagle (a giant kite!). Photo referenced, too. Poopy.

    Wyvern!

Hey, thanks legacy. I'll try to get some more done.

This is part of one of my assignments. I think it's my second or third try at using actual ink (sepia and jet black); also am using white, process yellow and magenta (to make red) gouache, and some white acrylic I found. I'm still working on it (I think I have used waaaay too much white paint. cruddy!). Tips/critiques?

    There's a close-up here too. Unfinished, of course :p

I have another image done (the more optimistic of the two) in this same method. I might stick it up, if anyone wants to see it.

Whoa, been a while since I assaulted someone's eyes with my scrawlings. Hold on to your retinae...

Newest - playing with shading, working more so on body structure than getting it to look like the reference photograph. And look, that F-14 narrowly missed him. Lucky. Photoreferenced the dude from a photographer on devART called dogeatdog5 (I think).

Stuff from my head, objects that were in front of me, and some scribbles from a few magazines. An F-4 Phantom also flies into the side of David Wenham's face, ouch.

More objects that were on my desk; model harrier jump jet, model F-16, desklamp. A bunch of wolves invaded, too, as well as The Bride's samurai sword (magazine ref).

Old stuff for a mod called Dracten (which I left). The leader of the project wanted some weird anatomy for this dragon species, so I had to go with it. It's not very feasible, the back wouldn't be able to support the wings very well, among other things.

Thumbnails scribbles for an attempted Daily Sketch Group image, "Mountaintop Docking Bay".

Futzing in Painter a few weeks ago, found it just now. Silly robot.

A messy tablet sketch, young guy raising his arms. Photoreferenced.

    Sketchy stuff from today! Bleh.

Muscles of the arm and shoulder; reference was used.

Some lioness sketchy-studies. They don't look very happy (possibly because they're all disembodied heads floating around the page?). One of my tubes of white gouache stops by to say hi as well :p

Quick sketches from a magazine. I am not happy with myself at the moment, I am crappier at drawing humans than ever. Augh.

Your anatomy sketches show a lot of comfort with the subject, great line quality and a strong grasp of 3d space. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself towards that aspect of your art. Not to mention your rendering is top-notch, especially for someone your age. Those lions just blow me away .

    Inspirational, man. Keep it up!

Ooookay, my scanner owned me again - reaaaally bad quality (it just uninstalled itself and now doesn't do anything on the main computer). BUT I've picked up my game a little and have been drawing a bit each day. Hopefully I can make this a regular occurrence :p Anyways, here's 19 pages of sketches I've done since August. I'll post some of the digital scribbles after I collate them all. Thank you to all who've commented and given me tips so far

I bought an A4 sketchbook at the beginning of August, which I find is nice to carry around and doodle in for practice. Here's the back cover (front is just plain black):

Page 1, beginning of August, sitting in the uni bar:

Quick perspective sketch between classes at uni:

Random studies of eyes and bird anatomy:

Poses from Dynamic Figure Drawing (Burne Hogarth), and a bar heater that was nearby:

Two more from Hogarth, plus two torso muscle studies:

Sitting on the lawn outside the bar at uni again, random studies:

I think this was back at the bar:

...lectures can be boring, so I scribble

Muscle studies of the arm, both sides:

One from Hogarth again, plus my left hand, bottle o' ink, and Copic marker refill container:

Dobermans! Dobermen? Whatever! Some from photos, some from my mind:

    Male heads:

    Dragons and dudes:

    Anatomy brainspew. No references (clearly).

3 poses from Hogarth again, arm curves:

One leg from Hogarth, the rest from my head:

    More dudes posing, no refs:

Grid from Loomis, plus my left hand again, and the inevitable zombie dude.

Two more leg studies (S-curves) from Hogarth:

    And here's the colour(ish) stuff.

    Doberman pinscher scribbles again.

Colour studies from photos, male arm and face.

    Two female figures, no refs:

Setting sketch which I might build on later.

    Spontaneous speedpainting, 2 hours. Zoom!

Mussing about in OC, no refs. His eyes are wacked :p

For the Daily Sketch Group, "Ships are dwarfed by vast docking 'cathedral'." Two versions, the top one is darker than the other. 3 hours in Painter 7 (probably my first real effort in that program).

excellent studieees! im sure its helping a lot and no doubt youll be improving at a much faster rate.
one thing ive noticed creeping into some of the faces is that the skulls are too small, as in the round part of the head (dunno my terminology), not the actual face, but the round part! hehe
i think because you are drawing the normal proportions for the face, 1/3 each section and thats including the brow to the hair line...but then you make the hairline like the top of the skull, when it extends past that....but like this is only in some of them and you may have corrected that by now...so i dunno.

i also think you should do some studies of the eye as well it seems you are having trouble in some pics like just reading your notes there hehe
    i like the perspective sketches.
    nice work!

I'll dig out the sketchable carp later, here's a colour splat for now (lines are by DieOxin). 2 hours yesterday. I'm kind of directionless when I try to colour something...

wow, really great start here...the only crit i have is you need to gesture out your anatomy studies more right now...they don't have the rhythm that is essential to a good figure yet. these muscle studies are healthy for you but you're missing one of the foundations

    keep up the digital works!

Frak me, I haven't touched this since October. Yikes. I have been drawing a fair bit though, here's the more recent stuff. Some from magazines, some from my head:

nice work so far especially with the hands.
rendering on the sypriss is good!
in the last one the face, some features look a bit flat, like the lips and eyes, try working in some darker shadows and shading with the form more, some closeup studies of these features might help too.
    cheers

Hey look, 2nd update in less than a month. That's an improvement, right? Right? 10 more pages from my sketchbook, of varying age (all from 2006 though).

Two from Hogarth, and two from my noggin:

    Loomis!

    From the noggin (ick):

    Loomis and other:

    Random:

    Random Loomis + heads:

    Big page of brainspew

Apathy: Alright, because you said so :p Heh, I might have some stuff for the colouring book thread soon...

Rodrigo: I'll get to work on that, maybe I should try a looser style of sketching?
