very nice glikster. that first one's values are nicely done. One thing that will probably help you out though is to have a little more control and consistency with your lines. They seem to be pretty random at times. If you make em clean and crisp you can have really nice control over them. God along the form of what you're doing it will help out your stuff a lot.

    Keep it up dude.

thanks Daunting, nice to get a reply! That is one of my problems when I draw with pencil/pen also... I like to throw way too many lines down.
    Here's a study I did from a photo I found on google.

that eye is good! i notcie you seem to use a big brush. its ok to start out with a big brush but i would move down towards a smaller brush as you paint to add some detail. and adding detail will help create a focus point.

cthomp, thanks! That's a good point - I usually end up working with one size brush because I'm lazy. I have to remember the workflow. Something else to work on.

I am supremely honored to have the Bone Doctor post his encouragement in my sketchbook! I will treasure this moment for eternity... or at least until I look at something else.
Seriously, thanks for the kick in the ass!

Some fairly recent studies. All taken with my new digital camera sans tripod, or proper lighting. Sorry for the poor quality.

The one below is not from reference:

    These are from reference:

The head is not and it's done in ballpoint, the skeleton torsos are from ref:

This is a charcoal and chalk portrait I did and framed, thus the flash:

It's always inspiring to see good and original work done with a mouse. Absolutely love the eye. I do think you should work on faces some more (just like myself), but I can't really offer you any specific pointers besides minding the perspective and working, working, working! Keep it up!

Spooky Tonberry - thanks for the encouragement and the compliments! I don't have internet at home, so I have to take pictures at my house and bring the camera to work to upload em. So, I'll keep posting real drawings and sketches, but probably only once a week or so...
I have another charcoal/chalk portrait being framed now. I'll post that one when I get it back.

Aremah - thanks! Yep, you're right about faces. That first pic in my last post was the beginnning of a page of head studies from Hogarth. In my next update I'll post the finished page of sketches. I know I need to work on everything, but having people come and comment is great incentive to keep working!

Nice stuff - expecially the sp wip! Got the right idea working through Hogarth for head studies. Also consider Barcsay's Anatomy for the Artist (which it looks like you already did a little bit), and as one of my art teachers always told me: "Master copies, master copies, master copies!" (I think he had a fetish.) But he's right! Loomis is always a good idea too...and Jack Hamm.

nice stuff, I like some of your graphic design-ish ones. For your painting its better to use bigger strokes instead of small ones but I know you are using a mouse in PS so it could be hard. These are good though, can't wait to see what you can do with a wacom.

man, can i suggest some perspective and anatomy studies? draw simple everyday stuff, like your computer, your living room, the chair, the soda bottle. and render them as well. take your time, you'll see that you get better. And keep making those Self portraits... and in both media! not just with the mouse keep it up man!
