    Drawings done at Russian Academy...

I've been mostly hitting the 3D/Sculpt forum but here are some of my academic drawings I did while studying at the Russian Academy (a.k.a. Mukhina Institute)...

Here's a recent copy I did just to stay in practice...

that is awesome! I always wanted to study in a russian academy, which in my opinion is the best in the world. Just curious, do you speak russian or can you learn there without knowing russian... I'd go but I have no clue to how russian works.

    Thanks guys.

Russian art education is incredible. Over there it is a given that everyone can draw and knows anatomy. Master sculptors and painters are plentiful ( and by master like people who are as good as any 19th century and earlier masters).

Petersburg is the best place to study and there are two schools there, Mukhina and Repin. I studied at Mukhina but both schools are great.

Mukhina doesn't have a site but here is a link to Repin's

    http://artroots.com/ra/index.html

There's a school in NY with great Russian artists teaching there too...

    here's the link

    www.academicart.com

The New York school is planning to take students to Russia to study so give them a call if you're interested in going there.

man those are terrific! accurate but powerful and dynamic.
how long did that female take? is it from life? and if so what and who influenced your take on anatomy?

Solid drawings, you have a good sense of form.
I studied at the Repin Institute for a short time and I can agree with you that Russia is one of the best places on earth to study art.
And what puts the frosting on the cake is that there are so many great museums in the area.
    Keep posting bro.

It's a shame that there are very few schools today that carry on the classical tradition in the Arts.

The female figure (answering DVD)was one of the first drawings I did in Russia...so was the Herakles head. I've got much better drawings but these were on my hard drive and easy to post. I hate digging through my old pics, scanning, etc..

James, I had some great times partying at Repin. I was in Petersburg from 96 to 98.

The Russian school is great but there is a lot of incredible talent right here on this site.

Russian would be good but you can get by with English long enough until you pick it up.
