I'm an illustration major at RISD.
I love it.
Costs alot of money, which I don't have, but worth it.

I go to the University of Hartford and am in the Hartford Art School. The Illustration department here is incredible and probably the most wanted of all majors here. I had to deside between two of the best Art Schools in the country (School of the Art Institute of Chicago and RISD) and i chose here. The atmosphere here is great and because it isnt just an art school you meet all kinds of people. Its also a hell of a lot cheaper than most other art schools (they give a lot of scholarships). Hope this information helped.

Could you tell us more about RISD? I for one am interested in what their Masters program is like, but whatever information you have--on the professors' expectations, the students' attitudes, the atmosphere, the facilities, the kind of work that's shown there--anything.Originally Posted by RipperMcGuirl

Anyone else have information? I'm very curious about this topic myself.
hey guys.
for all that I know. RISD is the top art school in New England, or thats what I have repeatedly heard & have been told. I was originaly going to go there, but realized the cost was way too high. ;p
I am currently going to the Art Institute of Boston, in Kenmore sq. it's a very small school. But I personally like that. For the factor that there is a lot more one on one student teacher time. they also just joined with Lesley College (cambridge), so that like jgillman was saying about Hartford, (which I have heard is a great school as well) you have more curriculm choices and are allowed to take classes at lesley that are outside of the art feild.
As for some other schools, Mass Art, I hear is a great school from some freinds that have gone there. The Museum School is also a good choice.heres some links to get you guys started.

I am a 3rd year AIO student in GAD program. You can get a BA 100% online and The Art Institute ONLINE ( a part of Art Institute of PITTSBURG) is rated very high. (90% job placement in Art Fields. New England Institute of Art is in Mass, as well.![]()

Hey JGillman
I went to UHA!! I graduated in 2000 majoring in Illustration. How's it going over there. I haven't been to the school in a few years now, even though I was living in West Hartford for some time. Is Doug Andersen still there? He was a great teacher, esp for figure drawing.
I really liked UHA. The illo. dept was great when I was there. At the time I was there were few professors who all came over from RISD, because of the changing set-up over there. I had made my decision to go to UHA based on money, the courses offered and atmosphere, but when those teachers came over from RISD I was even more happy, considering RISD offered me no financial aid at all. I don't think RISD the the end all be all in the art school world anymore. I think it's fallen off it's high pedistal. I know a few people who went there and ended up not liking it very much. (I'm not really trying to trash the school or anything, as i'm sure there are those that do like it.)
Anyway. I recommend UHA. There's a lot of great people to meet not only in the art school, but also in the reg. collages as well.
