Ember's eclectic attempts at art =)

alright so here goes...you may have seen some of this before since I used to have a different log in...which stopped working somehow...but any comments and and especially critiques are welcome =)

All of these are from the last 2 months...
    Anatomy studies:

a friend was trying to tell me about using patches to draw the planes of an object...?...this is myfirst attempt:

This was my first attempt at sketching and environment as well as my first attempt at drawing a creature totally from my mind...I'm not totally happy with it but that's what experimentation is for right?

    [IMG][/IMG]

Hopefully now that I have a new log in I'll be able to keep this updated more regularly. Thanks for looking! =)

Got the hand down pat, I would say, but I do have one crit.
Maybe it's just me, but contrasting light and dark more would help clarify the huge ol' (dog/cat?) piece. I laughed at its paws, though!

I caught you a delicious bass....
Yeah, women are suckers for big feet... Hmmm....
I like this last piece. It conveys emotion well! Bravo!

still life...I know this is rediculous but I needed to do a still life and couldn't get myself to draw a cup or a teapot...so anyway, you may recognize the toy as a rescue hero =) he's supposed to look stiff and symetrical. I'd also like to make a public appology to the rose. She is really beautiful in person...my inability to reflect that in my drawing is in no way her fault . She's just one more victim in my journey to become an artist...

Hello, thanx for replying in my thread Here is some feedback/advises/ranting/whatever (they are directed towards me as well ):
    - your anatomy drawing looks great. How long did it take? Do a dozen more. Find some references and IDENTIFY the different muscles. If rendering slows down the studies, don't bother.
    - hands...just do alot of them. Do the easy angles first, to get down the proportions. Try to do some skeleton studies as well. Discover a methodology that works for you.

Hope it helps or motivates you a little.

That line drawing is sick! Nice simplification there... It must have taken you like 3 hours to finish the shading on his upper lip.

Andreas - commenting on your thread was my pleasure...that nude is stunning

both of the anatomy studies were done in about an hour...I'm looking for better references...I only have old science books w/ diagrams from school...I'd like to find...softer (?) references so that I can work on my presentation as well as form...I will start identifying the parts as well.

Thanks for looking and for your suggestions

Bennett - chickens?...lol...smart ass thanks on the line drawing...if you look at the link to my texture studies you'll see that I tend to over render things...it took me forever to decide which features to pull out w/ my lines...it made my brain hurt...but I like the way it turned out. I'm hoping it will get easier??

I'm especially proud of the shading under his nose...especially because I'm a double amputee and I sketch with my left foot...so it takes a lot of concetration to get those kinds of patches....

lol... I was just making napoleon Dynamite quotes.. although the line drawing is awesome.. 3 hours on the upper lip is from when he drew the picture of Thrisha, and the large talons question he asked the farmers when he was working for them.

    Keep it up,

Ok, so I thought I'd merge my 04 sketchbook w/ this one...why have 2 links when you can see them all with 1 click? These are 7 of the first 11 drawings I did....they are from July - November 04.

Sarah Jessica Parker (obviously I hope?)

This is a texture study I did. I chose something fuzzy, something metal, something wood and organic (the carrot) and tried to see if I could convey their different feels...I think it turned out ok

A good friend of mine said I should practice drawing hands...I found this photo in a magazine and fell in love with it's composition...so I made it a study of value as well as hands...

These are figure studies...and since I'm not in school I used my good old Victoria Secret Catalogue =)

Then a friend encouraged me to aviod drawing from photos as often as possible...so I found a few things around my house that seemed interesting to draw...they're not really interesting at all....BUT for some reason I get more comments about that silly base ball mitt than any other....?? It's probably my least favorite....

anyway that's all I've got....now to create some more =)

Nice works man! I really like that pic of the hands! Try pushing the value range a little more in your work, get some dark darks in there.

    Howdy!

Good work on your sketches! The Sarah Jessica Parker piece looks much like her, and a great pose that shows movement as well! Good job on your Victoria's Secret figures look good, but as your friend said, photos are bad since cameras see with only 1 lens, and humans see with 2! Excellent work on the still lifes!

Only critique I had was to watch the symmetry on the muscle study you did. Muscles on the right leg are higher in position than the left leg's.

    Awesome work, keep posting!

I really like your rendering, you got pretty good control over how to use the graphite to your advantage. Her fight thigh looks kinda off, looks like you were rendering and drawing at the same time, I don't see any underlines for it, it would have been good to make sure all the underline work are all proportional before rendering, but if you did it that way, then it's all good. Keep it up Ember, hope you try the COW 11, it's dreameating time!!
