I realized that I'm able to copy from pictures or reality, but not to copy from my mind. That's why I started this (hopefully daily) sketchbook. With your sketchbook I can see that practise makes much better. You improved allot and I like it to see that CG-peps are learning the traditional as well. I started it the other way round and both went pretty bad for the amount of years I'm into it.

Gotta move my ass.
While in class you have the most relaxed time of drawing.

i had problems with drawing from memory too.. .. between the images in our head and drawing them 1:1 .. is a difference.. when u know this .. u can draw evrything from memory

its same difference u have between seeing 3d and drawing 3d... on paper sheets u can move up down left right.. in reality u can move
up down left right forward backward.. these axis : for-back-ward have to be somekind of translated to fit on a 2d paper sheet u cant draw.. when u are not aware of that third dimension.. u cant draw it when ur eye cant see...

cube drawing is a powerfull exercise... provides u with basic knowledge

::: perspective
::: symmetrie
::: dynamic
::: vanishing point

know the perspective and u know the object*volume

when u know how to draw perspective.. u know how to draw evrything from imagination.. i only draw studies to check perspective.. becuase i dont like to draw from ref but from memory

No I do not go to an art school. I once tried to get into but without any luck.
I'm studying something more technical (writing, electrics and shit). sometimes I do a technicall illustration or make some designs/typo/Layout whatever.

I think I know the basics of perspective and shading, but when it comes to human or animals, I lack of knowledge of the muscles, joints and movements (morphs). Gotta draw more from my hogarth book. Once I study it, a week later i've forgotten everything.

I tried to draw from my hogarth book.

first three figurs are warmup and not from the book.

yesterday evening at a Jazz-session:

I'm having trouble not to trace my lines and to use as few lines as possible. The sketches look like I've been shaking all the time. (to my excuse: the light was very dim)

I've at least improved in speed and accuracy.

the scanner somehow squeezed the pages at the binding, I swear the proportions look better there.

do u mean the technique from that tutorial ?

this way its easy to start simple and then just adding few more details and so on..

studies looking good so far..looking like mine while i started with figures and stuff

to get a feeing for the 3d ness .. draw simple geometrtie to simple indicate
the orientation.. i use cylinders for legs and arms.. 2 cylinders * lower and upper arm* same for leg.. for the ripcage i use a sphere and then i draw it a cubical style.. u see that in the head tut link above.. ihave a sphere and then i draw it simplified.. a sphere is anyways a good shape to start with.. it appears like a circle but in ur head it becomes a sphere..

u always get a circle shape when u look at a sphere.. doenst matter from hwere u looking at.. its a sphere ..hahaaa

u get the same technique for other shapes.. simple transformation.. changing angles and so on.. foreshortetning etc... i allign my ears nose and all other things the same way i alligned the jaw and chin..

tell me if u like me to share some more tips and tricks .. just pm

u described it well in my sketchbook.. the line thing and splitt it into easy lines..its what i doo.. when u follow some lines.. some of them keep important perpsective information which u have to grasp with ur eye.. then is much easier to do the next thing ': proportions
ur stuff will look much better when u find more and more perspective informations hidden in these special lines .. these lines cross more then 2 axis

my explanations need somekind of "dont get confused" certificate

). I mean the way you draw in your sketchbook. I think I know perspective allot, as I'm into 3d and drawing perspectivly (even correct) for years. I'm not familiar with all the anatomy yet. That's why I need to study it like crazy. Only couple parts like the head and chest are somehow clear to me. The rest of the body is still like a closed book. A book without a seal.

After I know how a part is changing while moving and how much volume it fills and where it's placed then I think I can draw it from every angle.

yea.. it what i am trying..
the changing part.. there are only 2 things chaning
1 foreshortening
2 angle

while the object is moving or rotating.. u get diffrent shapes because of 1 and 2 .. its not one angle with 2 lines.. which is easy.. a head with semi realism is like 10000 lines and 4500 angles or something ;D

any object has special perspecive information.. when u grap em and draw em.. its really easy to rotate ur stuff.... u get complex objects but u still have only 2 variables which change.. 1 and 2 *above*

when i draw..or whatever.. i trie to grap these perspective informations..they are all i have to know

evrything is about perspective!

iv drawen cubes for more then 3 month to get this done... i just not stoped until i felt save that i understood the basics behind.. which means reproduciable ..i cant say: i can draw cubes " when i cant get it drawn 1000 times this way.. i need to know all 44mio shapes..i dont have to draw them... but i think this is good effective way to learn drawing in no time..efficient and effective

yea.. just imagine how c00l it is to draw stuff from any view u can imagine O_O like a matrix in ur head

Nice sketchbook! I really love that marker sketch - and you did it while sitting in a bus! I couldn't get a single line in the direction I wanted it to, I think...

Keep working on your anatomy and doing that quick gestures from life - they really help when working on a better understanding of human or animal body/movement...
