BOOK OF DEAD SKETCHES [big D/L|nudity|new 06/27]

Hey y'all. Starting up a SB to force myself to draw/paint/doodle more.

To start it off, some concepts for a HL2 mod that I left. It has chinese fighting the EU and I was doing concepts for the Chinese army. It was slightly futuristic, my concepts were a bit to futuristic for what they wanted in the end. The concepts are posted in the order they were created, so you can see the progression of the designs.

Thanks sideshowbob! The digital stuff is all done with my trusty grapphire 2. The leatherguy looks a bit to weird, probably been better with a more clothlike mask.

Here's my two latest sketches, done at work while waiting for som PDF files to be written.

Trying to get some more action into my characters poses since most of my stuff tends to be very rigid. Must practice this more.

    kapturowski,
You have a very nice thread here. I like to see the variety of theme in your work from the near-future soldiers to the elves/dwarves. I am also very impressed with the overall feel of a genre that you can express in a figure. I have the same issues you do with putting my figures into very static poses. My best advice is to do a lot of gesture drawing. This can be from ref or from imaginaion, but just putting down as many different kinds of poses as you can think of on paper. Not only does it give you a good bank of gestures to draw from, it also gets you mind thinking along the right lines whever you start a figure.

Good luck. I hope to see some more work soon!

leslief - Good advice! I've started doodling a lot more, looks like crap at the moment but hopefully it will broaden the number of poses I use in my drawings.

    Now, something static!

About two hours, maybe a little less. Played Far Cry and whenever I died I got frustrated so I had to paint a little to cheer me up. That's why it's a bit hard to judge the amount of time spent on it. Not tht it matters, just had to say it .

    Sems - thank you!

Jens - Yeah, I tend not to draw profiles very often, when i was younger I almost exclusively drew profiles cause I thought it looked cool. But when I wanted to develop my drawing further I tend to stay away from them due to them being quite flat... but I guess it's back to the roots.

Here's some stuff from an HL2 mod a friend and I started to plan but never finished. It revolved around the second world war not ending in 1945, but continuing into the future.

Here are some concepts for the german forces.

Very nice stuff. I really like the warewolf design. Also all the soldier designs are pretty sick. they remind me of some metal gear characters. god i love that game. sweet style. keep it up!
