OMG, 0kelvin!!, that is the best improvement I've ever seen. You need like a ca Most Improved Achievement award for that last piece!

I love all of your creature designs too. Keep up the anatomy studies to help your wonderful ideas come to fruition.

Aww, thanks guys! You're making me blush!

I fear it still won't be nearly enough of an improvement to beat the dreaded GreenTopaz in the T-Dome, though. That girl is a monster (when it comes to drawing that is, she's actually quite nice in person).

That fat kid: I'm actually making a new smily right now. Just a small one I've seen a few people asking for. Now I just have to wait for the right time and place to unveil it!

    Thanks again guys!

Here's two new speedpaints! I'm having fun with these again!

The guy took somewhere around an hour and the monster took closer to two.

    Thanks for looking!

    THUNDERDOME!

The Thunderdome images have finally been posted, so I'm posting my piece here as well. It's hard to get many individual comments when your picture is surrounded by 270 others. Tell me what you think!

Also, I've got a couple new speedpaints. Trying to paint more people. I'm getting pretty comfortable with the head, but I'm still afraid of bodies, apparently.

I'm currently working on a gift painting, and man that's a lot of pressure!

This is definitely the most personal piece I've done so far. My little sister got married this past week and I painted this for her and her husband as a wedding present.

It was very well received. It's not my most technically perfect piece, but it's probably the one I'm most proud of.

Nice work. You have good reason to be proud of the last piece: it's well balanced and nicely executed. Nice to see your progress in this thread.

    Thanks Caledonian!

Here's my COW for this week, the topic was Sand Hunter.

The strange creature was first discovered as a pup, curled up in the third sandtrap of Hole 14 of the Hidden Butte Country Club Golf Course, by the course groundskeeper Applesweep. At that time it was no bigger than a small dog. Mr. Applesweep took the timid creature back to his shack and shared his lunch with him. They formed a bond immediately, and Applesweep would find the creature sitting in the bunker every day, waiting for him.

Over the following months, Applesweep realized the creature was growing at an alarming rate. It would soon be far too large to keep hidden at the golf course. He tried to take it home one night, but in the morning there was nothing in his yard but a large hole, and when he arrived at the golf course that morning he found the creature waiting in the third sandtrap of Hole 14.

After the fatalities began to happen, Applesweep came to regret letting the creature live underneath Hole 14. But even more than that, he came to regret teaching him how to play fetch.

Hey, bud! It's been a while, I thought I would visit your thread. That last piece with your sister looks great. I love how you did her dress, it has a lighter and more translucent appearence than most of the clothing in your work. The faces are nice, too. I'm sure they were very happy with it, and congrats to your sis!

Here's my fancy new Thunderdome piece! This is slightly different than the one in the Thunderdome thread. After seeing it against all the other entries, some errors became glaringly obvious to me so I did some level adjustments and minor changes. I'd love some comments and crits, you don't get many of those in the Thunderdome itself.

If you really want to get into all the gritty details, you can see a full resolution version of it here!
This file is like 1.5 megs (therefore too big to host on CA), so please go easy on my bandwidth.

I saved some progress images as I went along, if anyone is interested in seeing those. Even if you aren't, I'll still probably post them sometime!

After working on my LMS for the last month, I've been doing a lot of quick sketches like this, playing around with new things and stuff.

Here's some older sketches as well. These were concept sketches for the different clans you would meet in a game concept me and some friends were throwing around. We ended up going with a different game idea though.

hey, i like how you've bumped the depth of the darks in the tdome piece, a small change, but big improvement. I had fun looking to see all the toys i could recognize in your piece, & i think technique-wise it's a step up for you, regardless of the judging. keep on drawlin, you've got great ideas!

It's great to see experimentation in your SB, and that speedpaint is really pushing some boundaries for you! I'd love to see more of it! And dude, way to step up with your LMS! There is this sense of theatrical lighting I get from it, yet is has a printed feel, like and MC Escher drawing. Am I to assume you've included every toy you ever had and/or played with as a child? I see some really obscure stuff in there - Boglins, Big Frank, Madballs, Baxter Stockman, Brooklyn from Gargoyles, Funzo... - props to you on an obviously painstaking piece! I haven't even looked at all the entries yet X_x...

EDIT: HOLY F*CKING SH!T THAT'S A BREEZIE PONY ON THE ETCH-A-SKETCH NOW YOU HAVE TO MARRY ME KTHX!!!!

I'm really seeing a strong progression here, Kelvin.

It's really nice to see your ideas working themselves out, just in the SB thread and I assume much more so in your mind. Some of those last images are starting to show some real development in big ways- it's very inspiring to see happening in front of me eyes.

    Please keep posting!

cotron - Thanks man! Your piece was great too.

Steph - Haha, I thought you'd get a kick out of the Breezie Pony. It's not every toy I played with as a kid, but there are certainly a good number of them in there. If it was every toy I played with, he'd probably be like 90% Ninja Turtles.

    Justin - Thanks!

Waffle_King - Thanks, I've definitely felt the progress I've made lately. I've been a lot more confident in what I'm doing.

    JERI - Thanks!

Carnifex - Hehe, yeah, I threw in a few little tributes to CA members, like the Fozzy and Steph's Breezie Pony. I'm pretty sure there are a few others too, but I can't remember what they were now.

I've been inspired lately, going through one of those good humps, art-wise. Probably excitement building up for the workshop in December, among other things. Not to say the crap I'm producing is of any higher quality, there's just more of it.

These are just sketches, but I've got two bigger pieces like 90% done. Hopefully they'll be in a presentable state soon and I'll post 'em.

Oh yeah, and I've got a blog now too. http://ericpoulton.blogspot.com. Who knows what I'll use it for!

Great rang off stuff 0kelvin, so much stuff you keep having a go at makes it's really lovely too look through your book. Also the rang of styles is really interesting. It's good too see people are still trying to find the best style for them.
Hope you are getting more time out of work.

Wow, man, you're really improving! I miss you tons, btw, and I love that detailed TD piece you did (I see a Speak N' Spell! That takes me back...) I think your rendering off textures is improving all the time. I would post more, but I JUST got the internet installed at my new place, and
I've been doing 50 pages of sketchbook a week minimum, plus all of my other art and homework, but haven't really felt like scanning all of it. Busybusybusy at digipen!

So, yeah, feel free to pm me sometime, we should do a sketchjam sometime or something!

This is the first pumpkin I've carved like this, I usually do the standard cut-out jack-o-lantern face. I'm pretty proud of it, seeing as the last time I did anything in 3 dimensions, I was probably still playing with play-doh. I'll have to do more of this kind of thing, I really enjoyed it.
