A test for some company I'm applying to right now. They asked me to make a cartoon version of Manny Pacquiao.

your stuff is reallly good. love it. Is this painter? Wish i could paint even half as good as you..
The only thing you might wanna check is where the biceps actually sets in, at the left picture of pac-man. Seen from the front, its not coming out from behind the latissimus! But the color and the strokes are allright so they wont notice

    Hi Dizon

Really like the boxer dude! The face is cool, and the line texture is interesting, only crit is the calves on the frontal pose seem a bit flat compared to the rest of him, but the colourin technique you've got is coming along nicely...get the job??

    You're an inspiration...keep it up!

Sorry I haven't been around in a long while. I've been so busy with the coloring thing. I needed to do some real painting!!!

Here are studies mostly. Except for blue head man.

Plus a step-by-step of a portrait study based on reference.

    1. Started with a middle value toned canvas. I also used a textured brush to get a nice texture right at the start. This brush was also the one I used for %95 of the painting.

    2. Spent some time with a simple line drawing to get the proportions down. I always pay attention to the negative shapes and the outline of the subject. Just keep comparing your drawing to your subject to notice errors and fix it until you get it right.

    3. Started painting on top by indicating the shadows and the lights. I always start with the big shadow shapes. I make sure I use the appropriate sized brush to quickly lay-in big to small areas with only a few strokes. Just keep it simple. i do the same thing with the light areas. I also lightened the BG to make the figure pop out more.

    4. More refinement of the outline, values, and added stronger highlights.

Sorry if the images are a bit big.

James Dean! hot stuff. i think i have a man-crush on that dude.

i´d suggest spending more time on your studies, and make sure you get proportions and construction as accurate as you can manage before going insane. will help you improve greatly.
and more midtones and shadows in your values!
in the old gentleman with the moustasche painting, you´ve described the planes and construction very good, but it is very bland in the value ranges, and feels flat because of it.
    moar contrast. :]

keep up the good work dude, great studies so far!

Haha, yea that last one has a lot of expression with so few brushmarks placed. Really strong, nice and loose. Not sure about the rimlight. Although I think it is effective, it does flatten the head just a little - perhaps because its equally strong all around?

Thoughts on the character in #347. Not sure if you're still working on it, but advice may be useful regardless. I think the right one has the slightly more 'official' look, as if wearing an outfit suited for a certain job. Or off-duty military. Reasons are the recurring vertical lines and the collar. To me, the middle one hints at a more sportive background. Mostly because of the shorts, and he seems to be wearing a backpack. Left one appears most all-round to me, less obvious, yet still with a strong character. Perhaps more shady. These are just the impressions I am getting, may be interesting since I don't know his background and strictly judging from what I see.

Really nice sketches, those thumbs are always a pleasure because they are can be very 'free' and conceptual.
Like the last environment too, would be interested in seeing more of the creature, of course

    Nice nice, keep it up!
