This thread is just amazing, perhaps I'm asking in the wrong place but where do you start off learning to speed paint?

i tried to do the same but first u must learn how to digitally paint, im starting off too, even though i got a bit of art experience, but not to a great level of depth, heres what i am doing, firstly u must know the functions of the program ur using, i got years of experience with photoshop so that box is ticked. Next get urself a tablet, unless u wanna make things difficult and paint with a mouse. Once u get comfortable with the tablet the skys ur limit.

Use google, use this forum, use everything around u to learn.

I am learning to paint still-lifes, nothing too big or complicated... baby steps.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=107217 < great thread which is currently helping me get started on painting from scratch. Keep practicing, and remember try to understand everything (value, form, colour, lighting etc..) if u cant get it right the first time, dont worry u got unlimited trys to do it in. Goodluck.

Nice work guys, really like the ones by Munin Raven and Pencilkiller

This ones an entry for this months gnomon competition, did it quite quickly since I have a ton of uni work to do lol so guess it counts as a speedpainting, about 2 hours.

edit: made a couple of changes to improve the depth and lighting.

I like the way you handle the colors, as well as the brush strokes - very loose, but tight enough and accurate enough for the viewer to be able to tell exactly what (s)he's looking at.

Just finished 5 weeks of paternity leave, it's hard to believe our little girl is already five weeks old! I decided that my one slice of normalcy while on leave was going to be taking an hour every day or two to speedpaint some landscape studies based off photos either I've taken or various photos I've found on the web. Here's the results...
