Long time lurker here. Love all the great art on the site ! But this is the section I visit most, it's really addictive to see how fellow artists struggle, grow & evolve.
C&C is very welcome, I sure have a lot to learn.

skulls & doodles
the first one scanned a bit dark, hence the smudges (being worse than on the actual page).

lips ...are hard to draw !
I also did a crappy landscape speedpaint, but my pc crashed before I thought about saving it, oh well, at least I got the practice.

from life, colored pencils on yellow paper, first one about 30 minutes, the others each about 20 minutes.
oh yeah, she was leaning against the wall for all poses, that's why she's off balance, I just didn't draw it in.
C&C anyone ?

Good figure drawings here. Your skulls and features are done really well. Keep posting!

Thanks Ian ! Yep, still a big difference between the referenced and non-ref'ed stuff, but I keep working on it.
Been working on perspective, and then some life(toy) drawings:

Definitly some good drawings here.
(absolutly like that girl on the left in the second last post)
If you go for human drawing,
study bones and muscles are the first thing to do...
its a long way but you will see the reasons behind by time
finally its all about practising and make experinents without fear
MORE!
The perspective looks right, 3 years of Architecture has trained my eye on that at least! Good work on the tricerotops as well... I have no idea how to spell tricerotops... anyway, good work on the thunder lizard!

Xaya, thank you ! I know, I know ... study, life drawing and practice practice practice... LOL. I'll be studying perspective for a while longer (last weeks drawings are not worth posting, but at least I learned from them). And then go back to the figure.
Thanks Ian ... I like studying perspective so far, although it still tends to get confusing with all those lines, hopefully it'll get easier in time.
Here's a few pics from 3 life drawing sessions:

very nice anatomy!! those life drawings are really paying off!! though even that first ever picture you posted (lady&spear) wasnt bad!! branch off into other areas too!! how bout some males?? how bout some realistic faces?? (you do have one or two mangas, but they dont count...)
Heroic, thanks. The proportions are all loomis, I saw you're practicing them too, so you'll get them down soon too.
ODT, ow busted ... I don't have many men or portraits in my sketchbook, but I did have a realistic skull, does that count ?
I do draw more than girls, but ususally I don't like those enough to put them in, so yeah ...
That very first pic, was me trying to see how far I could get without ref, but with a lot of effort. I still see mistakes (duh !) some I could improve without ref (arms too long, hand not holding the spear properly), but that would be no use if I wouldn't get out the ref for that awful left leg. So I'll either someday redo that one with ref, or just leave as is, to track future improvement (hopefully). Thanks for commenting !
Enough talk, here's pics:

gestures, loosely from pics (first row) and without ref

same, with and without ref

lifedrawing, it was one long pose, but I wanted to do gestures from life, so I moved around. It's in some sort of brushpen-marker, fun stuff to draw with. Some feet & heads are missing, mostly cause of a bad digi pic (crop), some cause of bad planning.

last one was during the break, without model, but of course based on the sketches (got the arms wrong though)

first is semi blind drawing. Got bored with the model, so put some of the artists in.

C&C welcome as always !
more perspective study, with some ref pics from cars

NightVision- hey, good studies, Improvments on anatomy.
WOrk more on your prespective, and ur anatomy will get better utomatically.
wooh, haha,, the car looks funny. i really enjoyed diggind through your little mannikins. What pencil do u use, its really black. Looks like pen.
The portrait down the car is great, looks likes me somehow!! just a little bit, hahaa
cant wait to see new prespective studies, , Are u practising them by loomies too, they are great. Hes got a really cool prespective studies, i still dont got a chance to look at it, i might print it before the weekend.
They are really great, If u check my sketch book u can see how the mannikins helped me. im not good thoughi've got to work more.

iam just stunned by these tiny ink gesture pose drawings
so c00l *cant stop lookin*
these life drawing sesion stuff... what pencil strenght ? looks like somekind of H ?! h2 ? .. looks great anyways![]()
hope to do stuff like that too.. someday
keeeeeeeeeeeep drawing![]()
heroic, you see improvements ? I don't see so many so far, although I do feel I've learned a lot since I started posting, so that's good to hear.
I started practicing anatomy (I bet you recognize those) and the perspective studies I did help me out a lot ... and at the same time it's good perspective practice.
I haven't looked into loomis too much so far for perspective, cause I found a more theoretical tut online (http://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/tech10.html) it's pretty longwinded and deep, but I figured it logical to start with the more extensive one.
The mannikins are done with pen as you thought (with some flexible point, so I can get both thin & thick lines) ... no erasing, so it makes you think before putting those lines down, lol.
I check your thread out quite regurlarly, too bad you won't post for a while, I'm anxious to see what you'll come up with. (PS, I have to scan my pages in 3 times to fit, and put them then together, or I use my digital camera when it's a lot of pages).
sideshowbob, thank you for the compliment !
Pencilstrenght is probably HB or 2B, I usually put in the first I find on my desk (in my mechanical pencil that is).
You should draw from life if you get the chance ! It's annoying when they keep moving cause they have an itch, but it's much more 'artistic' and fun than drawing from a pic to me, and you can look from a diff POV when you don't understand the shape or shadow you're looking at.
Here's new stuff :

nice nice nice
yea i see improvement !yea thats good point in life drawing.. but
ill start life drawing when i feel better at percepting perpsective and anatomical informtations ..yea i still have problems with shadow and light shapes or + + +.. u can analyse the shape and form from pics too.. 3dimensional thinking .. spatial sense.. u can indicate distance very easy .. just use vanishing points.. u even can indicate the distance from nose start to its tip.. its maybe .. 7 cm or so.. but u can draw it like 100 meters .. its just the VP
there for i draw lotsa perspective studies front and side again and again until i get a feeling fot its 3dness.. for its perspective informations when u know these.. its easier to draw from memory
take a look at my last sketchbook posts.. random studies.. i draw stuff like these.. +5hours a day.. maybe 8hours or so :> until i got a feeling fot its 3dness
keep it up
i made a lil crapy perspective tutorial.. if u like to see...

Thanks for the advice and encouragement-I will try to use it.
Although these mostly seem to be copies (life-drawing) your imagination drawings look pretty good... Again making me jealous! Good work, you are a better person than me.
How long have you been drawing with serious ambition?
Hey, graet stuff, it's easy to see the process in your sketches man. The life drawings are comin' on really good. I guess you could giv the faces some more space in your mind though.. Faces are hard to concuer.
Great stuff, keep it up!
What do you mean, Tigermilk ? Practice them some more ? Hehe, no doubt I need the practice, but that goes for many subjects ... I'll get back to them in a couple of weeks probably. Let me know if you meant smt else ?giv the faces some more space in your mind though
Thanks for visiting my thread !
By the way, I'll update and reply (to Bob & Cameron) soon.![]()
We want an Update.AAAA

Amir, thanks
Bob, I think I replied on your thread already ... anyway, I enjoy reading your theories about perspective & stuff ... lifedrawing, can't really start too soon with it I think ... if I see what level some of people are that attend where I go, lol. It's not too expensive here though, can be a factor too.
Cameron, serious, few years I think, but I really started improving when I started to do studies, about 6-7 months ago. I was pretty good at copying before (or so I thought, lol), but the studies (even though more intended to learn to draw from imagination) improved my copies and lifedrawings quite a lot too.
I don't see lifedrawing as copying, you can get much more out of it (although that's up to yourself I guess). First it's more of a challenge because they move sometimes, you work bigger (sometimes, haven't shown yet cause I leave them there untill I have lots). It's 3D where a pic is 2D, you should know there's a difference ? Lately I'm getting the proportions down fairly quick (say 10-15 minutes), so now I can experiment, with color, different materials, portraying some of the mood/ character of the model, bringing out & exagerating what I see as beautiful/interesting/... in the model/pose ... Pretty fun.
I do do copies, and in fact I should do more, but these are not meant to be pretty pictures, but have a distinct goal ! The goal can sorta differ each time, but it's always to advance my skills. It's like drawing schematics on your biology exam (and while preparing for the exam), it's not meant to be pretty, it's to understand, and later to show your teacher you do understand. Well, you can of course fast fast learn by heart and forget the next day ... but that's exactly NOT what I wanna have happen, so I do as thorough as I can. Check back tomorrow, when I post my drawing I just finished, it's a good example.
Here's the stuff from last week ... Sorry for the bad digipics, dunno what went wrong & no battery enough for figuring out (needs a few hours to recharge).
28
without ref, as a test, and then some dynamic scribbling cause that's the best I can do right now
![]()
29
first 2 without ref to see what I remembered, then corrected & finished with ref
other 2 without ref cause I was at friends home, don't like the girls upperbody
![]()
had a headache for like half a week straight, but decided yesterday that's no reason not to draw ... pretty crap stuff (first pic is from before), but by the end of my 3 hours I started to loosen up againAnd today was pretty good progress (I'll post tomorrow).

Thanks for looking ! Leave a comment or crit if you like.
Bit late, but here's the update.

For Cameron: It's really shoddy drawings, but I spent like 3 hours on this, to understand what the pelvis looks like. Have a fairly good 3D image of it in my head now.
Could have been a bit faster, if my anatomy book had better pics... pubis and ischium are same height there, not really logical, you can see in my first drawings, some online pics helped though (thanks, jfrancis !). I may do some more accurate drawings if I can find good reference.

You are doing the right things man,
keep on churning out the studies I asure you
they ill pay off later onsee ya, ill be around
Hey I like the way you draw bodies and faces, Gives a comic feeling
to them. But keep practising, Life drawing really helps, more than anyone
can imagine, drawing from photos is ok too but you can get the 3D feal as
much.
Keep posting (especially life drawings)
:o whoua your anatomy looks like nice !i like gestures ! but i prefer the study from life drawing session ..
![]()
Keep it up !![]()
woWW ... awesome works man.... thnx for the tIps ... u have some awesome anatomy works... pretty good...... !!![]()
i really like your rhino drawings and your life drawings are really coming alongespecially the third one with the girl with her left foot under her right ! I need to take some life drawing classes or put up a mirror in my room. keep up the good work!
