I really love that 30 minute sketch, it shows you have a very good handling of the tool and understanding of the face. That's the sort of thing I would have loved to watch you do, to see what steps you took in constructing it

nice work on the composition of this one. I like how your colors are working here. very chaotic. The eye on the profile view doesn't line up right with the angle it seems to be at a different position to the nose.

hey Cam, i like what's happening with the hand and wrist. the lights pushing up against the shadows and giving the hand volume. But that Crimson red is waaaay too saturated and dominates that area. you should tone it down for now, and add the deep reds back when you have more of the painting "complete"

Your portraits are coming along super nicely, especially the last painting, great composition. My only crit is the red wristband, it's a little bright, distracts from everything else a bit. Great work man.

I don't know why this happens but it just dose every once in a while. I can't view your new image. I don't think that it's something on your end. The part of it that I can see since it's stretched but looks cool. Any way keep it up. I'll check you out latter and maybe then I'll be able to see the image.

All of this stuff is from a smaller sketchbook

sketching the armour in the met

    more from the met

    balcony thing at the met

sketching people as they walk by in central park. damn hard

    sketching people in class

and a better scan of a drawing done by the nyc sketchgroup. I started the drawing and then we passed around sketchbooks every couple of mins until they were done. Off the top of my head AmishCommy, winjer, poise, cbalaskas, loomer and jworian all worked on it.

Busy Huh? looking at your ink sketches they remind me a lot of my own. I seems that you run into the same problem I have and that is laying down decisive lines. They look scratchy. I know that some of it has to do with the fast strokes made to try and define the form. Anyway nice bunch of work.

Hey Sweetcheeks, just ate a peach and for some reason thought id better post in your SB. Hmm...

Anyways I like your SB, I see your really chuggin out them gesturedrawings, is good ya. A tip I can give you is maybe just concentrating on doing ONE beautiful flowing action line for each person, maybe with a brushpen or something, then moving on to the next one. Youll end up with pages and pages of lines, but after like 100when the hand finds that first line more easily you add another. and keep doin that a few 100 times. etc etc

This instead of what you are doing now, trying to get the whole thing in 2 sec of someone walking by. Ah well, take it or leave it. I know how picky you are on who crits you.

Great meeting you, and hopefully wont be too long til I return to NYC

I really like all the lose sketches in the earlier posts man. I tend to do a bunch of pages of these as well. It's a great way to practice, almost like taking notes, it all adds to your visual vocab.

    heY Cam,
For the thunderdome sketch, give more room for his feet, show his feet, or if he is standing in water or something give more room for that, and maybe crop it in more to add to the crowded feeling.
the ink wash is pretty interesting. I'm not to sure what the boy is fighting with, maybe you can make that more clear. Also the values are a little to scattered. it seems the eagle and the boy are the focal point so add another wash to the river below so the white of the boys shirt pops out more.
Oh! now I see there is a girl riding the back of the hawk, fighting with a knife.
I think if you pulled her out more and maybe threw back her arm like she is about to strike his staff, you would see that better.
the leg of the boy could be bent and in the shape of the bird, because right now you have his foot covering the intersection of the birds wing to the body, and that just confuses what shapes are which.
Don't know if this was a study for a painting, but thought I'd give you a nice long crit, hahah!
Keep it up, and hope to see you this weekend.

Wow, you've been getting busy. Making some pretty good advances too! I'm in love with your penwork- I think it's because the varying line widths help give everything some nice depth. The grayscale portraits with the touches of white are pure sex too.

There is plenty of impressive material in here. I really like the eyes on some of them. I think you and I somewhat share a style. When you carefully render, the drawings look very beutiful. See if you can do that faster and more precise. Once you can achieve that realistic look your drawings will really come to life. You already show this ability in many of your pieces. Keep it up!

    Peace hommie!

Nice portrait, and illustrator design. cool idea.
for the girls face that you are painting. Define her face more with light and shadow, really think about how the light and shadow will hit the form of her face. see the colors of the face like this it might help... the forehead is usually more of a yellow skin tone, under the eyes or in the corners by the nose that little space is usually a shade of warm purple, the cheeks, the nose, ears and chin are red or pink, and around the mouth and in the jaw area is a green skin tone color. just look at your face in the mirror often and you will see what I mean .
Cameron you are very talented, and I'm glad you came to my house this past weekend, keep it up!

Wow, that last painting looks like it's coming along great. One crit on the portrait sketch, looks like you short changed her chin a bit, something I also noticed in your painted poertraits from a while ago. Keep up the pencil studies man, you're improving nicely.

keep studying those planes and basic structures of things... that's what matters in the end, especially with mind drawings.
is your figure drawing teacher any good?
