    7 deadly sins

hey all! it feels like its been a long time since i posted anything. been up to my ears with work. but recently i had these cool french guys hit me up to do a two page illo for an upcoming graffiti book. these are the gigs i love to take on as side projects, as there was no art direction, and the topic was an interesting challenge. also, the graffiti guy in me gets all excited about contributing to a european graf book i will always embrace the culture that fostered my love for the arts, and am always happy to contribute to the cause of the aesthetic. anyway, the theme of the book is the 7 deadly sins. you would be suprised how difficult it is to dodge the easy cliches, and try to render it down to a single iconic image. each sin changed at least 3 times over the course of the creation of the illo. but in the end, im fairly happy with the result, more because i got to be me, and distort where i saw fit and make the descisions i wanted to make. these jobs are really healthy to do i think, because it reminds you you make art in a way, and lets you out to run free for a while. I CANT WAIT FOR THE SAN FRANCISCO WORKSHOP!!! anyway, here it is, with a couple full resolution shots as well. hope you like -c36

Wow. Really impresionant. I think that it's a digital painting, isn´t it? or you painted them separately and then put together into the computer?. The background and the type of font looks so good. In the other hand i don´t know if the composition is the bestr or not because i think that the artist choose it to express something to us so if you choose this i agree with it. Moreover the guys that are "making love" the boy have the arms so long, could be?.

Thanks for posting this amazing stuff of yours.

Andrej: its not finished. refelctive of my own sloth

Pichuerca" heh thanks man. yeah its all digital. the reason for the composition is because it is a two page spread, which i kind of wanted to run across the 2 pages. the composition was very intentional on this piece, as it was not necessaritly to create a scene, more to evenly emphasize all 7 sins, and kind of tie it together on a flattened plane, like graffit art in general. also, the lengthening of the guys arm, heh, i know. i walked into that with my eyes wide open. no regrets. sometimes i feel the need to stretch and exaggerate shit.thanks again dood!-c36

that is hilarious, and deep, at the same time. After Austin, I'm convinced you are the priest of Conceptart.org.

Anyway, great piece coro. I think envy is the most creative. I wouldn't have thought of that in a million years. Thanks for sharing man, I feel the love from here.

The pride one does not make sense to me either. You are depicting those who revel in their sin, and the samurai kills itself because of pride? Even so, the reason the samurais would commit suicide is to release shame.

    Thats really well done Coro
I love all the type except for greed... it stands out from the other ones a lot

The images seem almost disconnected from the background and have a universe of their own. They are impressive on their own, but I fail to see a whole unified illustration. I love the idea of envy being the car... and anger, or wrath, with the baby!
It's got almost a comic book feel to it, in my opinion... which i like
The integration between pride and gluttony is kick ass!

My only crit is that some of the fonts are very difficult to read. Someone who wasn't familiar with the 7 deadly sins would have a tough time distinguishing some of these without that label, since these are sort of abstracted versions. Looks awesome though, good work.

shit! how'd i get 5 stars already? you all are too nice.

    Pavel: he thanks man!

Woodrodius: hehe, i know. its for a graffiti book, so i felt i could take some liberties with some of the fonts. had this been for a mainstream mag, i most certainly would have made them readable for non-graf heads, but since the theme of the book is the 7 deadly sins, i figured id get all arty on it.

    Sok N. Wett: thanks yo....

James Kei: thanks my man. i didnt know you wrote graf dood! thats awesome! i look forward to finally meeting you at the ws dood!

Gaussian3d: thanks dood. its always a slippery slope pieceing an illo together like that. in a lot of ways i think its a failure. but i like areas.

    Summer Pudding: hahaha thanks man!

haiku: thank you so much. this was my pleasure to do, and i can only hope some of that carries over to the viewer.

RudeCorleone: rude! man! where you been? thanks...

SaIiLdVaEnR: its all dependent on the point of view. i feel that one who is willing to take his own life by his own hand due to shame is indicative of pride. what would you have done?

    rodrigo!: thanks

    viag: thanks to you too!

Lim: hehe. glad to be postin again. this book is called retroactif vol.2...

jetpack42: hahahaha the priest? wow. i have been called alot of things, but priest...thats a new one! send me a virgin to sacrifice!

thanks again to all who replied. i really appreciate it.-c36

My favorite one is the gluttony depiction.
What's coming out of that machine and into his mouth? His waste? His fatty lard?

(it's always good when you get the viewer asking these kinda questions!)

This painting is full of creativity and style Coro. Cool 8)

What can I say that hasn't already been said? It seriously takes balls to do this kind thing, and I admire that enormously. As usual your technique creates beautiful results, but what stands out most here is the subject matter. Each sin has a deep thought behind it, and it has a powerful effect when it comes together. Really boss work, keep it up as I know you will.

    Hey coro awesome comp...
I like how you portrayed the sins! Creative

Only thing that gets my eye is the greed font or how its placed. Try moving it around or changing the style, all the other fonts are so stylized. Maybe a loose font or move it over a bit ?

    Its always a treat.

holy crap! you've got the samura commiting seppuku as the sin of pride!! that's totally great...it's funny because usually most people think of honoring the idea of old practices like that, but I always thought it was a lousy way to die.
