    Cheers SEVANS, much apreciated mate.
So yeah I've heard South Seas Animation School try to get there students some work experience, like they had there guys doing some work on bro town and stuff like that, so maybe I'll give them another look.

And if any one else has anyother ideas that would be great!

    thanks again man.

    Matt,

Hey man, I'm doing first year Bachelor of Design, Digital Design at AUT atm, if you're interested in working in areas of motion graphics, animation, 3D etc this course isn't too bad.

Theres life drawing once a week this year and a paper next year called visualisation thats essentially concept art.

However, I would warn you that most of the teachers here (or else where in nz for that matter) can't really teach you any substantial knowledge (apart from maybe design history) most of the learning would be by yourself and learning from fellow student.

It's a 3 year course so I guess it's decent if you're just looking to get a qualification and expanding your mind. Don't really expect to be seriously taught in art foundation etc though...I dont think many schools in NZ can off you a satisfactory education in that area (maybe whitecliff and ateliers, not sure though, you'd have to ask people who know more in that area about it)

    Hope this helps.

Mark, maybe on a weekend might be better, see if we can round up a sketch meet.

    oh god Jase that's embarrassing

but yeah...my comment earlier was just a optimistic summary of the course which i tried to be unbiased, personally i think most uni courses in NZ are basically providing you with the facility to teach yourself and expose you to new stuff...I guess the pessimistic version of my comment is...don't expect to go in and come out being taught ready for the industry...you gotta work towards that yourself.

Jase, replied to your PM but I'm really keen for whatever, got a specific date in mind?

After talking to a couple people that went to uni, I had the same concerns about the value of enrolling, that post made me feel a lot better about NZ uni's for art. Thank you.

Hey all, I was just wondering if the Auckland crowd would be interested in a small meet up this Saturday? sort of like a pre workshop drink in the city (...or should that be pre pre workshop drink? . I'm not talking bloody Pub crawl type of shit just a nice quiet few at a Bar. The last few months have been particularly draining on me and I'm sure I'm not alone there i bet you Uni and Art school guys have already started sporting comb-overs trying to finish off your end of year assignments, I reckon a night out will be a refreshing time out for everyone.

So yeah what do ya reckon?, I've managed to get a few mates to come along, if anyone else is interested in making a night of this lemme know and I'll think of a Bar to meet up at.

    cheers fellas...
    ...Jase

PS. I'll leave the option open if you want to bring your sketchbook along!

Howzit, decided to sign-up a couple of days ago but it turned out I'd already done that a year ago, possibly after getting home from the pub or some such.
And thus is explained joining in 2007 and yet still having my posts counted in single digits
Anyway, anyone from around Palmy way post here?

    Time: 6:30pm - 9:30pm
Location: Whammy Bar, St Kevin's Arcade
    Street: 183 Karangahape Road

Facebook invite for Naughty Nun November
    Dr Sketchy on facebook

"Dr Sketchy's Burlesque anti-art school life drawing sessions, held once a month in the Wine Cellar/Whammy Bar, St Kevin's Arcade.

Fun evening of burlesque girlies in skimpy outfits! Wine and liquor is to be consumed! Enticing art is to be created by the quick fingers of many busy art monkeys.

Experience completely unnecessary, but a sense of cheeky fun a must.

Dr. Sketchys will be once a month, $10 on the door (to feed the models)"

I just moved to Wellington last month from Dunedin, and am wondering how many of you guys are around this city, and willing to meet for a sketch-up sometime?

    Concept Design Workshop - Wellington, April 18 - 19

I'm thinking about going, and i thought some of you might think of going too, if given the chance to think about it.

    http://conceptdesignworkshop.co.nz/info/

Date: Saturday April 18th - Sunday April 19th
    Hours: 8.30am to 6.30pm
    Tuition: $195

Concept Design Workshop New Zealand gives students a rare chance to immerse themselves in an intensive two day workshop with two senior concept designers from Weta Workshop.

During the two days, Paul and Warren will run a class based brief that will introduce students to the fundamental conceptual and technical skills employed in 2D concept design. A primary focus of this workshop will be one-to-one teaching which allows students to benefit from instruction tailored to their skill level.

At the conclusion of the two day workshop there will be the opportunity for students to have their portfolio reviewed along with any other personal work.

    Course Requirements

This course is predominantly digitally based. Students need to have a basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop and the use of a Wacom Tablet.

Please note that Wacom Tablets are NOT provided. Tablet drivers supported by the Mac computers are WACOM Intuos, Graphire and Bamboo tablets.

In addition, students should also bring A3 pads of Cartridge, Zeta and Tracing paper and a range of pencils, pens and markers. A digital camera is also useful but not a course requirement.
