Thanks for posting this Dan. Was the snap-to-path painting feature added because of you? Sounds similar to one of the ideas you had at the workshop.

I like it. I personally didn't mind the old interface but having that control/brush bar at the top instead of the control and brush windows sepperately is a nice little improvement.

I got to get back. I need to see what else 9 is packing.

I have to admit that im a bit disappointed.

I expected the layers to be improved, but all they did are "cosmetic" changes and didn't do anything about problems.

You still have to group the layers you want to collapse, which is imho stupid - why do I have to press two Buttons if you could do it with one ( like in Photoshop) ?

They also changed that its now possible to collapse layers of different type - which could be a cool thing BUT this produces such ugly artifacts that its unusable...

Dan, thanks for the heads up. I'm excited about the #4 feature - that looks wonderful.

    Cheers,

I have been beta testing IX for the past 4 months, its the most solid version to date, there are alot of great new features , increased speed, and some great new brushes, i highly recomend this new version.

the corel team has been working hard to gear painter twoards the entertainment industry. when you buy the full version you also get a manual complete with tutorials from artists like Ryan church and myself.

buy this version as soon as possible, the sooner you get it the closer you we get to the razor edge of digital painting technology-

I've been working with the beta staff aswell.

At first, I was skeptical, but now after really getting down and digital dirty with it....MMMMMMMMM

This is a fantastic program. All my work from the past...4 months i guess have been done in painter9, so... yeah. I LOVE THE PROGRAM.

Read what andrew said, double it, and then divide it in half, and that's exactly how i feel.

Tried to get the demo installed at work, had to get a tech to come do the install (cursed admin access only) and the demo was installed as expired, so all that trouble for naught. Gonna try again at home later, should only take an hour or two to dload it again. From what I saw on the preview page it looks damn good to me.

I have the button on the side of my tablet pen set to earaser. In Painter 8 hitting this button brought out the regular earaser while it was pressed. In Painter 9 it brings out the Liquid Ink earaser. If I make a stroke all it will do is create an empty liquid ink layer and earase the nothingness inside this. Does anyone know how to change this? It's a pretty weird problem but one that is forcing me to continue to use Painter 8 (at least when I'm doing lineart.)

Words don't describe how pleased I am that they finally put in a Flip Canvas that does all the layers correctly. It also runs alot faster on my machine.

This is the first time I've upgraded since Version 6, which I clung onto like a leech.

    Hi all,

I have tried new painter and its pretty nice, and fast at last, but i`ll not move to 9 from 6.1, sorry... zooming is still broken from ver.7 and makes barricade for me. Im not really happy because this reason... heh even layers colapsing is little faster in older versions (because interface is more frienldy). I have feelings, that Corel dosent care about ppl using Painter for years...

    Painter release?

    Hey,

When's the official release date for Painter 9.0? I heard it's this month of Oct but was told by other stores that they don't know when. Oddly, Apple's online store has it for pre-order..what's going on?
    I'd kill for a copy of 9.0

Finally tried the demo, holy poop on a stick, it's fast! I really dig it. My ctrl, alt, shift brush resizer doesn't seem to be working though. That's always been my fav part since I started using Painter a year ago. Need to dig further to find out how to do that, I'm sure it's there.

Amazing program so far. Now to find the 400+ clams to lay down for it....
