    Question Education step by step

    Hi everybody,

there is no „pause“ button in reality so i have to think about... what´s after school?

I am german, 19 years old and go to a “Fachoberschule” (similar to secondary school)
for design (sounds finer than it is).

I really want to go to a Art School / Academy / University ....... study fine art and so.

It is really awful seeing all this incredible men and women here at conceptart.org .
and compare it with my stuff.
Although i can say without being conceited i am one of the good one.
(especially my anatomy knowledge is compared with my mates one excellent!?)
it is terrible being at a school (talking about the one i go to) where you learn... well nothing new.
(some simple composition stuff..... contrast, etc)
I am one of the few (perhabs the only one)
Who want to learn new techniques and improve skills.
So i have to be autodidact and learn more with helf of onlineforums and practise...practise and i do!

To come to point, i want to dedicate Arts.
Perhabs i visit a School abroad, don´t know.
But there is a fear, study art takes 8 – 12 semesters, right, and graduated it... what´s then?
Jobs in this buisness are rare and with lot of compromises (sure these are everywhere)
But thinking of being an Illustrator doesn´t sound to bad for me...

    So here my final questions:
Do you, who studied art, live based on this....
Is there a chance getting jobs? (in europe please!)
Do you work freelance, when yes... can you live by this?
Do you learned something other on with you can build on or live from?

    Thx

    Xaya

As far as schools in Germany I don't know any specific names, but some cities I've heard that are good place for Art school are Cologne (Köln), Düsseldorf, and Berlin. Other than that I can't be much help.

    thank you for replies,

i just visit the site of the berliner school,
it sounds very fine... all the traditional stuff fine art, sculpturing etc.

    but its a university!
So i need a a-level normally (there are also some possibilities to go to this school without it)

i could nevertheless do the a-level until 2005...

    well.....

    thx

    Xaya
