Hello, What material is this?

Hi,

Im new to the forums, I got pulled in here by reading some of Smellybugs Maquette Tutorial, Which I have to say is AWSOME!

I am currently studying Industrial Design (about half done) and Im in a basic sculpture class right now, just messing around with diffrent types of clay and using new mediums. I came across the attached photos on the web (They are NOT my work) and I dont have an Idea who did this sculpture. There is just something so..."human" about it. What I would really like to know is what material this is made from? I was thinking Wax, but figured it could well be some type of clay with a good airbrush as well.

Anyone know? and BTW I really like these forums, alot of great projects and information!

There's a contemporary artist working internationally but based in Brooklyn named Bryan Crockett. The pieces I saw this summer were made of cultured marble (cold cast marble). Different work but similar enough to think that maybe it's the same artist. They were large castings of the artists genetically modified mice, about 4 feet long, with whiskers added.

Yeah, Bryan Crockett's stuff looks similar, though after a little searching I didnt find out if that sculpture was his or not.

Another piece I like is done by Chet Zar, I found out about him because of the artwork he has done for the band TooL. Below is a link to his piece called Softspot. The final piece is made of clear Urethane, his original looks like clay.

Has anyone had experience working with Urethane or silicone for these type of sculptures? I am wondering how difficult it is to use these materials, and I assume that they are used along with a first clay form and a mold.
