mixing color painter

is there any way to mix colors in painter like you would normal oils or acrylics? for example if i was doing a shadow in oils by mixing blue and the local color mixed with teh compliment. i tried a most of the brushes and messed with the opacity but still havent really found what im looking for.

Hi,

There are several, if not many, ways to mix color in Painter. Since you're not dealing with pigment, though, it can sometimes take a little experimenting to get certain color mixes that work. Blue and yellow to make green is one example that people have had some problems with.

A lot of Painter artists just "mix" their colors in the Art Materials palette's Colors section by fist picking a Hue, then adjusting the Saturation and Value by moving the little circle in the Hue/Saturation triangle. Then the Hue can be easily adjusted.

If you don't like that way of getting your colors, there's a collection of color mixing tutorials on my site and also one set of colors that gets you at least one good green you could start with, then do variations.

A Few Ways to Mix Colors

Also useful are Color Sets. They can be created by saving colors one at a time (the colors you mix, maybe?), and a Color Set can be created instantly from any image. Here are a couple of tutorials for understanding and creating Painter Color Sets:
