I decided to check out your thread seeing that you had a lot of views but no replies. i was wondering how you were going about painting your projects? Are you doing scans first and painting over or under them in photoshop?
I think that you would actually learn a lot more about painting by doing monochramtic studies first or even just black and white value studies in ink washes or with prismacolor markers. I myself have a very big problem with color but love painting. I think the best thing you can do is create a sound illustration. Do thumbnails first of all, then head to value studies followed by mini comps in full or limited color and then the final. If you start painting that way there should be no reason for you to go wrong. well, that is all i have to say for now. Do some anatomy studies too, those always help. I do lover the bird on the shoulder though!!
good luck on your crusade of pigments my friend.
i agree, try some anatomy drawing, those are always good for sharpening skill. thats what i am working on now. starting out with black and white is a good way to go or if you do color limit your color palate to 3 colors and see what you can get out of it. i like the sketches how you leave the construction lines, my crit for that would be some of the constructions are purposeful and some are not, the goal is to have only purposeful construction lines. believe me im working on that myself and its not easy, takes a lot of confidence.
Kinda mad that I let this thread die... I'm going to try to work EVERY DAY to get better at this "art" thing. Please keep the C&C coming!
rollb82 - thanks a ton man, yeah I just draw from a clean slate, but I should really draw more from life and such.

Hey, Azmeos!
I'm with everyone else on the value and how to go about paintings. The painting from reference is looking grea so far, though, so keep it up!

IanE - Thanks man, I should have read your post before I did this, but I'm giving it a shot anyway... I'll be doing more mono stuff soon hopefully.
Sorry I didn't get much time today... only a small painting from ref:

very good
love the worm O_O
playing around with shapes as such a good tool man use 2d shapes and turn them into 3d .. gives a good efeling for proportions and dynamic
i use them to learn faster.. when i draw easy simple stuff its easier to check if my proportions are wrong and what i need to change to get it right
used tablett for the digitals ?
keep drawing![]()
Alright guys, reviving this intensely dead topic because I've started drawing again. Except this time it's in class when I'm supposed to be paying attention... screw that.
WARNING: Some of the doodles SUCK and by that I mean ROYALLY BLOW... so if you want to see good drawing, don't look below. When I get up early and just let my pen go most of it's crap. Sometimes there's a diamond in the rough after I've warmed up.
Enjoy...
I've exctracted and increased the size of some of the ones I liked.
And now for some digital stuff I've been doing for work...these are just drafts, but you get the idea. The text is crappy filler, don't mind it.
