I really dig your inking man
I think that the conection between the torso and the hind lags looks alittle offlike there connected to the middle of his back
pretty cool
just one thing i spotted, the bicep on his left arm looks too small compared to his other arm...in fact, looking at it again, the whole arm looks a little small compared to his left arm... apart fropm that it looks pretty darn good tho :p
nice! i would make the tail a little more menacing...maybe some spikes w/a nasty stinger...something a bit more intimidating.
really nice ink technique. i like the design alot.
Sweet ink work.....it's always pleasing to see a forced perspective executed well with good form line and thick to thins.
I agree with some of the earlier posts:
• stinger more menacing - a scorpion's tale tends to have small hair-like spikes on it which could lend to that scary look, eh? Maybe if the stinger is as sharp as the legs, that would do the trick...they look awesome!
• I know it's a minor detail, but I also agree with the arms of the character being disproportionate to each other. Perhaps the answer lies in removing the bit of muscle from the underside of the bicep in the creature's right arm - right now, it appears that the vein overlying the bicep may serve as a better form line and make it similar to the other bicep. In that view of the arm, the vein (if apparent) would be standing out on the form line edge. You may decide to carry this venous line along the other bicep too....
• I'm not an inkin' fiend, but I will tell you again that your work is very clean and simplified to provide 'what is needed' to get the feel across. I only have one thought here regarding any reworking and that is point of focus: I'd like to say that I'm staring at the intricate spear head design or the menacing face and stinger, but rather it is the area of the dense ink coverage residing in the space between the left arm and the torso edge. That jet black commands all of my attention. I'd say go for broke and keep inking in this figure for stark contrasts or keep it clean and refined like the rest of the body.
Fantastic work! Would love to see more work of this figure and in different poses to appreciate the how the legs and tail attach to the body!
Cheers!

hey thanks for the indepth crit, I agree with all your comments, they are well spotted and thought out. The arm difference isn't as obvious to me as others, but many have pointed it out so I know there is an issue there. As for the black under the arm...DOH! I knew it was a problem when I did it but I tried that old 'if you ignore it it'll go away' trick, but unfortunately it didn't. I din't think I'll fix these things on this pic as the client is happy with it and I'm running some tight deadlines at the moment, but thanks for the advice, I'll definitely watch out for those things in future.
Once again thanks![]()
Totally cool, Bastion! I know all to well about deadlines and figured that was the case. Ya know that bit about the scorpion stinger I wrote of before? Even the stinger has hairs on it if you look at the larger scorpions...the tip is much more tapered like the legs you have drawn and the stingers have a serious curve on them. I collect beetles and butterflies and I have an amazing scorpion to look at and study. Of course, they're in frames and not alive....sigh....but how cool would that be?!?
Keep it up and post more!
Cheers!
