I shouldn't even really post this because the painting was kind of horrible and the sculpture isn't too thrilling because it is just a try at creating my first standing figure. If it works though i am sure that the next one will be as dynamic as a cascading style sheet! I guess i will keep who ever checks it out posted. Stay tuned to see if i can make it work.




This is the original sketch, which really isn't all that great. I should have taken more time and actually found some reference pics.




This painting was kind of rushed and not really done with great reference. I plan on redoing it someday to make a more moody version of it. Possibly with some disembodied heads laying around.



This is just a bit of the sculpture i am working on. Blankslate and cotron know and probably think that i should be done with this by now. I have to actually make the arms and other apendages seperately because i am still learning how to deal with making a real good armature. I also don't plan on getting into putting in the details until all major parts of the body are present and proportional.

Well, it is nice that there is a great community on-line and all that actually shares work and comments on art, but why am i here posting if i really don't get any crits. I know i have only been on this site for a week , but eh. I guess i will keep posting until people say stuff.

Here is a digital painting that i am still working on. Pretty much working on it every day after i get off from work. My plan is that i will paint digitally for 2 hours a day after i get off work.





There is actually an image of the earlier painting of this towards the top. I think i am deciding on going with the second image which is darker and trying to work my way up in values again. It seemed like the image was getting kind of too close on value.



I love drawing women, and giving them eye patches!



this was just a quick painting i did on card board, i just scanned it in and blocked out the color in the back in photoshop. I think it will become a posssible sculpture sometime soon.

as for posts, don't sweat it. Keep at it, people will stop in eventually. Try and post at least once or twice as day on the forums, if not in your sketchbook, than on other people's, or in lounge, or anywhere for that matter.

Get some more from life drawing on there, suckah.

oh, im glad that the sculpture is finally gaining limbs as well. they look a little long in the upperarm... (elbows I think should line up with the ab area..?)


I like the second, darker robot too. keep at it dude!

cool drawings.

it's helpful to render to the forms with a mechanical pencil. what i mean is dont just crosshatch whichever way, but think about the contour and the rings that a cylinder has. think of the body as shapes. I know insane visions does this and his shit is awesome.

I love my wacom tablet and have pretty much been working with it everyday for about two hours after i get from work. I have been working on painting this robot and I think i messed it up and might have to go back on working on it. I kind of just want to call the robot quits and work on something else for a while. (drawing real people)

Thanks for the advice on looking at insanes work, and thanks for the advice on cross hatching.

These figure drawings are all about 5 minute sketches and were done in ball point pen. they are off, but that is ok beause next time i will have my drawing face on!

Hey Chris, I just wanted to say that I love that robot!
And now that I've seen the different stages of progress it's been through, I can see that all those dings and knicks you put on his torso in the final version really give it some personality.
I know you said that you're sick of that picture, but if you could tighten up some of the wreckage in the bottom corners I think you'd have a really killer piece here.

Hey pal, i like the head of the first marker piece u did today. but it gets iffy hand and sword down.. but thats like not the focus of what u were trying to do , so. keep at it. the 3d stuff looks neat, but i know nothing in the department. keep up the progression - ry

Chris, your samurai storm trooper dudes look cool, but it looks like either your markers are running dry, or the paper you're drawing on is too rough for them, or maybe a little of both. you might want to look into that.

And I can't wait to see what you do with that robot piece!

Okay so i really wasn't all to productive for the day. I should have gone to the model drawing sessions but i am making a promise to myself to go this thursday. I am basically loading the sketchbook up with some old stuff today, some of the work is current.

This is a sculpture i made during my last semester at school, i did it as a study to understand the head more. It also makes for good reference in lighting when no one is around. It doesn't move. hahaha.

I will have some more sculptures to post tomorrow, i just have to pull out all the stuff and take pics.

So i sculpted for about 3 months or so and made about 12 pieces or so. I am currently trying to get better at painting but i am now realizing that i have a problem with seeing value and color at the same time. I usually have to do a value study followed by mini comps and then the final piece. I started doing paintings in photoshop to see if i can use adjustments to get around some of these problems. Here are the developments with my new wacom, i have had it for about 3 weeks so far.

this one is close to completion once i figure out what the hell to do in the background, i might just call it a study and not put it in the portfolio.

Hey everybody,

When i say that i mean like the 5 or 6 people who have actually given me feedback on stuff i post. I am trying to do a new little practice called draw them small and paint them big. What i do is draw some thumbnails, scan them, scale 'em up and paint them for the night. I am going to atempt to finish three pieces this weekend by doing this. I want to finish all of them tonight but it is a saturday night and i like hanging out with the becca.

thanks for the compliment arghmisfit. I checked out your sketchbook and love what you are doing. you are really improving. I have actually checked out your sketchbook for a while, i just wasn't signed up on the site yet.

i am trying to do as much as i can to get better lately. I am using my free time to come up with thumbnails of work that i want to do during the week. this is what came out this weekend,welll, i am still working on these. I kind of broke my promise to myself and went out to see alien vs predator. But i think i am going to do an alien vs predator painting of my own soon. here are the thumbs that i began to paint. I am hoping to make up for my laziness by painting over them during the week.

they are sidekicks. I plan on putting in lighter values to bring everything out.

This just a rough sketch and i plan on fixing all the anatomy problems in it while painting.

Wow, really nice stuff man.
The wip with the jedi woman is looking really cool- I have no idea what you intend to do with it (obviously) but I like all the sketchy lines in it- it would be sweet if you found a way to keep them in the final piece. Anyway, I have nothing else to say other then keep doing what you're doing. Lookin' good!

nice chris, i agree with wart, the sketchy lines really make the piece look 'angry'. That might look cool with you can maintain that look through the finished piece.
