Post First Post - Portrait Critique

Hello everyone. As the the title states, this will be my first post on the concept art forums.

I've recently been encouraged to give more realistic painting a shot and so I went ahead and did up two different portraits. From what I can gather after these initial two is one, I need to watch my proportions and two, I should make the initial sketch a bit more thorough (I've just been doing an "alla prima" technique if you will call it that). So, I came here to get help on the for initial sketches, how to go about them, how i might go about blending together the different strokes I've made, and whatever else you think I should improve for that matter! Images were made using bamboo pen (ctl-460) on adobe photoshop cs6

    Thanks for the feedback!

I think these are done very well for portraiture. You can recognize who these people are.

I'm assuming that you used really big brush strokes to start out then worked smaller to get in details. I like them man, keep it up.

Thank you! Yes, I like using the "round point" brush. I've modified it a bit today so i don't get crazy radial bristle action like what you can kind-of see on the hair.

Annnnd it seems as though I saved the original to 72 resolution while making a jpeg to share...I'm all done with this then!
