Mine is a bit of a story, but kinda funny the way it all came together.

I went to florida on holiday with wife (pre-kids), Space shuttle Mission STS-69 (Endeavour) was due to fly, So we trolled off down there in the car and asked at the main gate if there was anywhere nearby where you could park up and watch it go.
We were told by some stern faced guys with a guns to go talk to the staff in the security shack. We went in the little shack/ office and asked same question to which the guys said where you from?
"er England mate why?" we replied
"Did you came all this way for the shuttle?" they asked
"er, yes!" we said, thinking he meant have you come down from Orlando, he didnt he meant have we come all the way from england to see it, LOL
anyhow he gave us a visitor pack and a badge for the car and off we went onto the launch causway with all the press and families and other Geeks and techies and got to watch the lift off - IT WAS AWESOME!!
We went back a few days later as you cant look round after a launch and looking around the visitor centre we bought a print of "Lightship" by Attila Hejja.

So a mild combination later we had my online name "Lightship69" and its all down to the memory of that perfect day in the sun with some cold beers, high science, and the fastest, greatest, most brilliant thing I ever saw!

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/sh...es/sts-69.html - link is you are bored.

sorry it was a bit of an essay, but its all true.

I was born and my parents named me Pavel Sokov, so that is my name. I couldn't come up with a reason to hide my real name from like minded individuals who are helping me greatly in my artistic pursuits. I'm not sure why people more often then not shy away from their name. If you become a great artist, you want to be known for it, don't you?

It wasn't all like that though. As a 13 year old kid, I joined these forums back in 2003 as "manslauter". It was misspelled and everything. Very cringe-worthy.

I was 12 when I signed up for my first forum. At the time I collected Monsters in my pocked and as I looked over the folder with all the monsters I saw the Medusa. I identified with her and went with it. Then I upgraded to what was called a master account and added the "Lady", since I'm of noble decent. After that it just stuck to me.

People used to call me Tobba as a kid. I started writing it with a capital letter at the end because at that age I thought it looked cool. And I guess it stuck. Some people might confuse it with an icelandic girls name, though.

I came to it by actually putting together the etymology of "Mal" from Malevolent, malignant, malnutrition, malice, etc, and simply put the prefix together with edict. Funnily enough, it's actually a real latin and english word, albiet quite antiquated and almost never in use, and anyone only knows it from Doom 3 as it is the name of the main villain, and probably some character/god/champion in Dota, LoL, or HoN or somesuch.

Mi nickname is relatively new lol
I used to be "azer" [ I was 13 xD] but after a few years I was like "gosh this nickname is bored :c" so I used "angie.cappuccini" [diminutive of my name and fav drink]
But 2 days ago I was like "gosh this nickname is very childish :c"...so I wanted something that started with A -like my name- and something that sounded simple, sweet, female.. like my art and I got it a few hours ago xD Was like: pop! you have a new nickname lol
I like it because it can have many pronunciations

Shrug. It's my name - Candra Hope.

I guess I'm like Pavel in that I never felt any reason to hide it or use a nickname. I only started using internet forums in 2008 so I never grew up with them like some people. The first time I visited one, I saw all these fake usernames and thought it looked kind of odd. Just never saw the need for it, I suppose.

I kinda thought 69 was for something else and was surprised to see you were going to tell us the story of it!

Thank for making this thread, I was just wondering where people came up with their user names, since I couldn't come up with a good one myself. Mines pretty straightforward, It's just my first two initials and Ramirez(obviously). I was impatient and not very creative, I just wanted to start my sketchbook.

One of my favorite H.P. Lovecraft stories is called "The Music of Eric Zann"
    I feminized it.

Amph is a shortening of Amphiptere, a mythological creature. Six is my day of birth... idk.
I do use both Amphipteresix and Amphsix, but I got tired of writing the long version.

He! Nice stories in here! I love those who turned out to be old, unused english words!
To those who don't use their real name: as an artist trying to get known to the world it makes sense to use their "real name", but I think a lot of people try to hide their real identity on the internet due to privacy reasons, because, I mean, it's the internet! It kinda makes it easy for everyone to look up everything you ever said or posted to the internet, and it's easy to take anything out of context and interpret stuff that's really not meant to be seen in a certain way or sth... whatever

I didnt manage to come up with a new one yet. I'm thinking about getting sth in there that maybe shows my palestinian decent, but then again, I don't feel too arabic or palestinian... Hard stuff guys!
