Mary Worth - Bloody Mary

She was a beautiful woman with a kind heart. Always helping others and admired by everyone from afar. One day she had a horrible accident, which disfigured her face. She was told to never look into a mirror, for they thought she would succumb to insanity. One night, she could no longer fight the curiosity and went into the bathroom to look. As she looked at herself in the mirror, the horrifying reflection made her break down in tears. Her sadness and anger was so great that she walked into the mirror, like a portal, to find the beautiful reflection she once had. It is said that if you call for her three times into a mirror, she will appear and attack you, to ensure that no one will ever come seeking to see her.

This week, design Mary Worth, and since next Sunday is St. Patrick's day, a requirement is to include the color GREEN into your design.

The Guidelines:

• Must be female.
• Must be Human.
• No Nudes.
• Can be any time period.
• Disfiguration is not limited to the face, but must be part of the design.
• GREEN Must be part of your color palette!
  

The Rules

• Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
• Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
• At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
• Sketches or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll
• At least two wips posted with your final in the finals thread
• Background is optional
• Have fun!

Additional Notice: A couple things I want to bring up..

• No photograph paint overs...ever... never ever ever never...for ChoW. Must be 100% original work.
• FOLLOW the brief. I think you all have been here long enough for me to truly enforce this. Last topic with the centaur, a majority of people did NOT include the tribe markings on both the axe and armor. From now on, if there is anything missing from your final submission, be it the title, your name, 2 WIPS, ChoW # or a missing requirement, it will not be in the poll. So PLEASE make sure you check and DOUBLE check before submitting.

Sketch. The idea is she doesn't even have to come through the mirror to get you. She just rips into the fabric of your reflection. Not a nice lady.

Wow, some really cool designs so far.

I decided that I wanted to take a more sympathetic approach to the character and wanted to have the disfigurement be somewhat downplayed instead I disfigured a patch of her jawbone and am having it run along her neck and arm. Like a fool I tried painting yesterday without a plan and found my self hitting constant mental blocks so tonight I stopped and went back to basics, doing thumbnails and roughs, I definitely made a mistake by not doing that from the beginning and lost a lot of time delete half finished work.

I think I have a good idea. My use of green is actually going to come into play on my lighting, my thought is that it is right after she breaks down upon seeing her reflection in her vanity mirror and her breakdown is so sad that her reflection takes pity on her and forces itself through the mirror to comfort her. I did a very rough color study to get an idea of what colors I'm going to use and I think I'll be able to get alot further tomorrow night now that I have a plan.

Cool stuff so far guys. I thought this topic would be a fun change of pace into the "Horror" genre. Not too deep into it, but enough to have a different flavor this week.

I'm really upset I can't see most of the entries so far, but for the ones I can see:
taffyjones: I like your first concept are you going to do another pose with more of the body being shown? (I'm not sure the second one shows 3/4 of her)
ardentsideburns: This is a cool idea. Her half-face kind of looks like a mask. It's pretty raunchy with her ducttape breasts. I like the hair the best )

Well I finished doing the sketches of my poses, definitely rougher then I would like but definitely don't have the time to obsess over anatomy I'm going to bump up the resolution from here and start laying down my color. I definitely want to push a sense of sadness in the piece.

I'm not sure if its the forum just going through hiccups due to the move But I've been able to post. Keep getting rerouted to an error page whenever I try to put my W.I.P on file in on the first post. It seems like I've found a work around. If I put a quick message down and then edit it, it seems to go through. Anyway, This is where I'm at so far. I got a rough sketch down and have my poses pretty well figured out. I'm going to up the resolution from here and start blocking in my forms from here out. I think I've got a pretty powerful scene coming together.

Something_Abysmal: Although it's very cool, I can't help but feel you're focusing too much on the scene rather than Mary herself. This is CHoW after all, make the character the star of your painting

Small update. It's pretty obvious I'm having trouble with the fabric and outstretched hand.
