    A den of unfinished lions

trying to create ancient architectural inspired creatures, used aztec for the black, roman and greek for the white. l think l'm at the final part of this drawing but l'm stuck. the mane on the white lion and the overall shading and.. something else on the black. trying for the whole guardian direction. standing tall and imposing, being all judgmental and shit.

Rip into it! l want this torn apart so l can make it better

I really like your concept, the designs are very nice.

I wish I could see a more defined light source. It looks like it's from above, but it doesn't seem informed.

I tried to find something as similar as I could to the aztec lion, I hope it helps. See how some of the shadows have harder lines than the others? I think some cast shadows will help define the form, but also keep in mind which shadows are softer. I would stay away from really dark shadows too. It looks like you have more detail in the light rather than the shadows, maybe you can lose some shapes and edges into the shadows.

I would definitely work on your shading with the green fur as well, it seems way too dark in some areas.

Keep going, you have a great start!

Love the idea (creatures inspired by cultural styles is always awesome ). I think the Aztec styled one is a lot stronger and I think that's due to the mane looking like part of the architecture, too. Perhaps with the Greek styled one's mane you could re-work it to look like Corinthian plumes etc?
