Dreaming of genie, would really like to take this to the next level

I've been working on this for a while, and I could really use some feedback on it. Any critique would be welcome! I had a lot of trouble making the metal of the sword handle, as well as the crown/armor look like gold. Tips on that would be much appreciated. I want to make that thing shine!

    Oooh I like.

For the gold I would up the contrasts more. I honestly think its too 'yellow' at the moment and is not showing enough shine or reflection. The gold at the base is especially distracting.
I'm also a bit wary of the structure of the swords hilt. Specifically the position of the grip and the angle of the hilt in relation to the character.

    Keep at it!

Shiny stuff is reflective, so you need to think about the total environment.

    Thanks for the replies!

Star Eater- I'll try to work on the yellowness, it does look a little strange Also, after taking a break and taking a second look, I think you're right about that sword handle. I'll see if I can photoshop it into a better position, I don't think it will take too much.

Black Spot- Any tips on how to make the gold still seem gold while reflecting such a dark environment? My attempts just end up looking muddy.

    Thanks again for the feedback

still have the yellow, but more round the edges and in other places. Keep the reflections fairly sharp on most edges - they can fade. Observation from a shiny object would help the most.

Amen to that, if you really want to capture that highly reflective look, I'd say having something in front you, set up in such a way as to simulate the painting, is essential.
