The Thirteenth Hour - A-May's (new) Sketchbook!

Hey So this is my new sketchbook, do come in and make yourself comfortable.. Basically it's called the thirteenth hour, cause with uni work and life and various other commitments, sometimes it feels like I have to invent extra hours in the day just to try and practice and improve, you see! Anyways, as I said do come in, I am open to all constructive criticisms; I've been around here long enough (albeit with interim periods of slacking off) to know how to take a criticism, and I am very grateful to anyone who gives me enough of their time, to give me a (Probably well deserved) kick up the bum. I really am keen to improve, so despite having no hours left in the day and having said this many an unsuccessful time before, i will attempt to post daily, even if it is only something small! Anyway with that stated, shall we get on to the art?

So.. This is a series of images produced on a short design project based around objects, for which I chose to do a horror set up, Victorian toys and the like..

Here is the promised life drawing from this week's class, unfortunately my proper camera is out of use temporarily and my scanner isn't big enough (they are on a3) so I've had to use my phone and as a result they're awful quality but you get the idea! First page is a series of 5 min warm ups to get into it, then two 20 minute poses and a 25 min pose last! As always feedback is welcome and appreciated!

Morning
Busy day today, so just a quick one I did at about 1 a.m. this morning. It's my first real speed paint enviro from imagination. I think it's not too bad but I have a long, long, way to go! My own crits would be 1. I massively over worked it.. need to learn when enough detail becomes too picky and kills the atmosphere, 2. Define the light source more clearly from the start! and 3. Practice practice practice that perspective!

Next step: Back to basics.. perspective and light source on objects

Just a few sketches today, spent 12 hours in musical theatre rehearsal so not feeling up for much, figures and perspective. Once again I apologise for the awful quality photos!

Just a crit.
Your guestures seem a bit stiff.
When you do gesture, try not to draw (if that makes any sense).
Keep yourself loose like a noodle. Pick up your hand and draw with your arm let your elbow do the work. Also try to draw a bit bigger.
Dont put details in until the 2 (1/2)/3 part of your drawing. In that, you'll pay more attention to the motioning of the body or object instead of the details that make it so.
You would have plenty of time to add details, but its hard to go back when your positions are messed up. hope this helps

Hey guys, sorry it's been so long I've been ridiculously busy with uni deadlines and life, anyways it's the holidays, so from now on (fingers crossed) should be daily updates!

Kate: Thank you so much, I totally see where you're coming from, I've been struggling to get the whole figure drawn cause of that.. I need to gesture the shape first
