    does this sketch/thumbnail look ok?

okay, let me tell you how I want this image when it is complete.

The trees are supposed to look like they are looming above her.
I am not sure if the trees and her perspective line up, and I'd apperciate any advice on perspective tips especially at this angle.

I understand this is a thumbnail, but I don't get the impression that she's a short as a gnome. Here's what I would do,I would change the focus of the picture(I hope thats the right word) so that her full body is in view.

I've decided to change the perspective, and eventhough it is not showing her gnomelike qualities, i hope its protraying mroe of a looming atmosphere!

If we're looking up at her, that's going to work against the concept of her being very short, since the viewer is then by implication shorter than her.

I think that's okay, I was just indicating she was short for the first thumbnails since I was having issues where I could put size-relationship objects?
The people with I'm working with like this angle so I'm going with it, will update soon!

figures in 3 pt are very tricky. The foreshortening in the shot is very weak. Her hip bones would be included in the shot. Erase her jaw or neck line for now. I can see you have the right idea but habit won't let you.

She's just getting flatter and flatter. You need some proper ref.

The reference I was using not aligned with the background so it came off as a flatboard, after realizing this, I took several photos of myself with the perspective of something looming aboveme.

Things I need to work on or speculating:

does her scale need to be bigger?

I need to fix up everything, right now she is still very flat and stiff.

    heres a wip:

    Hi Marlo!!
    (it's me RT*)

    These are my fast observations:

The hips are wider on the reference picture. I don't mean they are bigger hips, but the perspective makes them wider XD
I also think there should be less cheek in front of the mouth. Her jaw also has a weird shape now, it goes too far back.

And one quite important thing about the trees. They don't have leaves on the back. You drew the trees as if they are seen from the front.
Eh I find this a little difficult to explain.
So here I did a super quick explanation of what I think you should do.
If you make the trees like this, so with lower leaves too, from the back of the tree, they look more like they are above her. But I'm pretty sure did not even draw the leaves low enough.
And if she is in a forest you would barely see any sky at all. Since the trees around her would also cover the sky you see around her body.

hey Marlo, I just wanted to commend your willingness to listen to the advice you've been given, and nicely shot ref, but I can't help but wonder at what your image is even about now. It went from the contrast between this cute short gnome girl and the environment around her in the first couple to this very static vertical piece with no interaction with the character (who now looks very human) of any kind. It is, by all means more technically accomplished now, but what are you trying to tell from the story? Who's most important and what are you using to tell that? I could understand this viewpoint if there were some threat looming directly above her. I actually think Elwell made the most important point here by pointing out that the angle isn't helping your main visual theme - looking up at her you're making her feel tall, strong and overpowering, whereas from what I can tell you're trying to show she's under some kind of threat and is generally dwarfed by her surroundings.

Just some thoughts, given you've responded so well to advice given.

Okay guyzzzzz, I now understand what you guys mean by the angle.
Here is some ideas and notes on her character.
So the idea is Fantine, the little creature was in proccess of making a baby moose cry. Big Mama catches wind of it and will not tolerate that bullshit to her baby.
    Expect thumbnails to come.

    edit:

I am not sure, and this is a probably no, but maybe I can incorperate what I was working on with the moose concept ?

Find ref of everything you plan on implementing into the scene and study it. Everything is a little too ridged and stiff at the mo. With such an angle you can skew things quite a bit as long as it's not too extreme for the style. Quick 10min paintover.
