    Altar of the Divine [Fauna]
    Deadline: Sunday, March 3

It is your task this week to imagine a culture where a specific type of fauna is considered sacred and to create an altar dedicated to that creature. The following must be clear in your final entry (and yes, all are mandatory. If thought through you should have a pretty nice altar):
    a) what is the fauna in question
    b) who is using the altar (general public, a family, priests only etc.)
    c) how to people show their devotion- there will be a "sacrifice" be it incense, flowers, burnt offering, food, the hearts of the natural enemy of the creature in question etc.
    d) what is is made of

From Wiki, altar. "An altar is any structure upon which offerings such as sacrifices are made for religious purposes."

    Brief:
    1. Design and draw an Altar of the Divine [Fauna].
    2. That's it... now draw!

Sweet topic bro! Really like the implicit action of an altar (and the opportunity to do a little storyboard demostrating the ritual). Leaning towards #5 because a mantis theme would be really fun to explore.

A thumbnail. I'm thinking of an altar for a small bird. I like the idea that the upper part (that right now kind of looks like a moon) is going to be the shape of the bird, with the feathers on the other side of the pillar in the middle. I hope that's understandable.

And Maxscomputer, your sketches are awesome and scary!

hi pixie, can the altar be for a creature instead of a plant?

Also loving all the designs so far some really slick ones!

I'd like you to stick to an animal- if this goes over well, who knows if there will be a flora based round in the future...

Trying to get the forms to make sense before I go slapping paint all over the place and later wondering what went wrong. Used Carapace to make a quick perspective grid, looking at mantis reference intermittently for the arms and the head, though will be revisiting them tomorrow. Trying to jot down materials as they occur to me in places that make sense, so that I don't reach the next phase unprepared. Need to stick a human in there for scale, pull reference for the guillotine mechanism, and get the drawing ready for the addition of values.

This project has already yielded huge rewards for me--I realized that my hand is a sweaty mess on my Intuos4 and sticks to the plastic. I put on a little glove I had laying around and presto! Smooth as can be. Think I might invest in one of these for the future, though. Very, very happy to have realized/rectified this.

max im truly gutted and yet pleasantly surprised with ur drawing, although saddened because i feel like you went with the worst idea out of the lot of great ideas u had. However this is minimal because they were all such great ideas!

I mean im kinda glad u didnt go with the skull puncture thing cos its a little closer to what im doing, but also arachnid mandala! molten lava! these are some incredible ideas!, the human sacrifice case! awesome stuff man how did u come up with those ideas lol I think it is coming along nicely cant wait to see it finished. Only crit for ya would be dont forget about transitional forms, ur forms all seem to kind of be stuck together with no things to move them or structural support. with this i feel will improve ur work.

I changed my mind! I'm going for a moose theme. Yes, that's right.
