Mikus - trying to learn how to paint from my imagination

    Hi,

as this is my first thread on this forum I would like to say hi to everyone!

Just like I mentioned in a tittle I would like to be able to create art from my head rather than from references, although for the time being I am going to use references to understand how things work as my first attempts with landscapes using imagination only failed. I got up from my knees and here I am trying to improve and learn as much as I can. I haven`t finished any art school which now I truly regret. I am also new to digital painting (got my first Wacom Tablet couple of weeks ago) so there is a lot of work to be done!

All comments and criticism are welcome, so don`t hesitate to point out mistakes I make!!

my very first attempt to draw from imagination only, no references apart from the moon which is a photo.
I like the background, not proud of the foreground ;/ Rocks look flat, need to practice this.

This is what I did today... used reference from Kekai Kotaki although I didn't try to paint it exactly the same way especially water.. All comments are welcome!! In my opinion bacground struggles in here, also it took my about 3,5h to do it.

Thank you FROZ3N, I always wanted to paint 17th century ships (with big guns on a rough sea) so this quick wave study will come in handy but this won`t be done until I feel I am good enough. I decided to take part in Environment of The Week (Paradise City) and this is what I came up with, to be continued

and the final stage of Paradise City, I left too much of a free space above the City ;/ I like the rocks on the left and right hand side. What do you think?

Just a thought (I'm really in no place to give crit, I have much to learn), but it seems like the people on the beach/cliff used to give scale are still a bit too big, the ones lined up with the building to the right (on the bottom) are about a story tall may want to use something else for scale or make them smaller... other than that I have no real place to crit.. Good work!

You are right imcostalong, they are definitely to big.. I will remember next time to take more time for details like this. I appreciate your comment we learn every day, my environment did not get a single vote so there is much work in front of me.
