    Talking Painterly Figures

    Hey,
Does anyone here know who does great painterly expressive figures? [ lots of use of color in skin tone, a variety of brushstrokes, etc? ]
As of now I have a couple of other artists in mind that I can use for reference for my next painting
    - Jenny Saville
    - Odd Nerdrum

Also, who does really good skies? Jeff Soto's skies I do admire due to the fact that he has a lot of color interpretation and various things going on in his paintings.

    Yup yup
    All Help is most appreciated

    Thanks!
    Ashley

The oil painting demo by William Whitaker have a lot of tips on painting and using color in general http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=83405

One thing that really clicks for me is the tip that you should push your brush handling skill to the very edge to make it look expressive and spontaneous.

wow, that Steve Huston guy reminds me a lot of Phil Hale's stuff. That loose brushwork really adds to the action.

i kinda wanted to mention him but figured i covered the painterly bases with williams as similar as they are they are different though. i kinda favor jason's work these days cuz it's darker and the Abe Sapien mini kicked butt but well... whatevs.

I think there's an old thread around here somewhere with a lot of his stuff that's not featured on his site anymore since this is where I found out about him in the first place. Provided the links still exist.
