    For people outside Europe, http://kayak.co.uk has shown the best deals I could find. I always use it for international flights.

    For people inside Europe, Ryan Air is unbelievably low-cost.

    Just watch out for added charges with the low-cost airlines like Ryan Air and EasyJet. Baggage charges etc can mount up if you don't book them online or with your ticket (at the desk charges tend to be double).

    Quike, make friends with some locals and you can come back and couch surf and have a proper look round!

    Plus the rest of England is very pretty in places.
