Thank you! haha I agree; the perspective studies are indeed a breath of fresh air...maybe it is the change of pace that makes them seem calming.
The heads are definitely my favorite. Look at my my progress from only a week ago until now and you will see what I mean! I learn and adapt fast.

It isn't easy....but once you understand that all heads are based around one concept of construction, it becomes simple when drawing heads and faces from memory.

You are only giving yourself till August to become a professional? You best work your butt off! Have a look at Feng Zhu's videos. He has some on how his students were making professional quality work in 6 months. The secret is Fundamentals fundamentals fundamentals! Good luck!

Good luck man, you're off to a great start. Probably a good idea to mainline perspective studies for a couple of weeks, a really good understanding will make the other studies go faster.

I am continuing to push through the perspective studies in Loomis's Suucessful Drawing book. I'm starting to understand the practicality of the basic shapes in my studies...however, perspective application feels very daunting; can't even fathom where to begin if I were to create my own compositions and scenes/environments applying my new knowledge of perspective basics.

I am returning to my head studies from Drawing the Head and Hands...I am trying to cement proper construction and proportion in my mind. Before, I was studying from references and applying knowledge of my earlier loomis head studies. But I want to progress further into the book and acquire more knowledge so my heads are more accurate. But my biggest goal is to create heads with dynamic expressions and forms.

and last but not least: a 1hr stock figure study. This is something I plan to do after work (late late night) just so I can relax and practice observation and various other "stats" hahahahaha i played too much RPGs as a young-un.

Nice updates man. Mrfrenik has started a nice perspective SB with puzzle exercises. Might be some stuff there to check out. As for starting when using perspective, just think to yourself, where are the viewers eyes at(viewing from which height and angle(camera))? Then you have your horizon line, and from there you build. Keep it up man. I agree with VET 6 months is a brief time to get really pro like. But I have no qualms with setting the bar high. If you strive for perfection, and fail. You should still be great if you work hard and efficiently!

My first painting...finished in 2 1/2 hours.

My biggest accomplishment is knowing the improvements that could be made and the easy mistakes I have made during the process. Commonly, artists become so attached and overly delicate over works that deviate from their usual body of art. Once it receives criticism, he or she becomes defensive, and come up for excuses for said mistakes.

Well simply put, I am not that type of person, so please:

Hey man, gestures seem to look better and your vision of spacial relationships seems to be getting better as well. For the painting I believe the nose is missing a piece to it. The ridge part I believe needs more meat to it, and the eyes are too small. But it's pretty good for your first painting, regardless of how much time you spent on it. If you aren't doing so, make sure to mirror the canvas because the mistakes will become more apparent that way. Keep it up, bro! Really liking what you are doing.

Worked my butt off all day today. Hit the schedule the best I could and tackled most of my fundamentals and studies, however, I'm sure I could have done more if it weren't for my mental fatigue (I took frequent minute breaks as my focus dulled).This update contains perspective, gestures, figure study, head study, study from live model in class and a self-portrait.


I loathe blending, hence the sketchy method of valuing the portrait. Spent 2hrs on it.

Welcome to the fray Mannyhaatz . Looks like you're doing all the right things to improve. I found Bridgeman really helpful for figure drawing - His stuff just has a really great chunky-volume that worked for me. Particularly because I'm a cartoonist.

Wanted to answer your call for suggestions on this painting I found a similar view of Mr Bale. Try to figure out the planes of the face. What is side, what is front, and top. Start with the broad parts, and work down to features - particularly that interesting nose of his. This is really helpful for painting- if the side is in shadow and the front is lit, you can get a lot of form just by blocking that out. That's why people paint so many cubes and spheres and work up to more elaborate shapes.
Trying to figure out the whole thing is too much work haha- break things up as much as you can using the simple principles.

Well anyways, I have improved quite a bit since my last poopy Bale painting.

Here, we have an exercise where I was suppose to draw 3 heads of both genders of 4 different races, a painting of a nintendo 64 controller (my 2nd painting evaar), a painting of some sort of sickle knife (painting #3) A self portrait (painting #4), an 1hr limit speed painting of some underwear model dude, and MY FIRST SET OF CHARACTER CONCEPT DESIGNS AND SKETCHES!!!!! I am excited that I am actually exercising my dream of becoming a concept artist. WOO!
