    Maybe the reason we never see Mother Nature's child is because he can blend in with big ol' fluffy pack animals! Really wanted to approach this design with a mask/fur hood, so built the design around that.

    So fluffy!

    @Eph: I understand the metaphor you are aiming at, but this has become off topic. Your sketch would more or less represent the earth its self, and not a being of existence on earth.

    @Mouzzi
    i LOVE your piece, it's absolutely adorable!

    @Bnoch
    damn this one is going to win for sure, such a potent rendition!

    @Havok Reed

    not to be the devil's advocate, but i find eph's concept rather neat? we're talking about a metaphysical being ..i don't think there's anything too out of place in having pieces of buildings and forests on himself, i mean there's lots of other submission that feature giants that could very well do the same? even if it's a human sized child it's a symbolic thing, much like horns or wings or anything extra people have been putting on their characters.. dunno- i don't quite understand the reasoning behind calling it out of topic, that's all. I respect your decision whatever it may be anyways, just wanted to voice my opinion.

    No reference used yet. Feel pretty good to finally be able to draw a normal body from imagination.

    Got tired of my new design and went back to my original idea: Kind of Kim Possible looking but I character design for 2D cartoons anyway so it works. Haha

    Perhaps off-topic wasn't the right word. I never said it wasn't an interesting idea or that it wasn't neat, and I understand the thought behind it. But to me it represents everything as a whole; everything on the planet that humans have done to it.

    ..i don't think there's anything too out of place in having pieces of buildings and forests on himself
    Mother nature represents the natural things/wonders of the world, but not necessarily the world itself. Having the child of mother nature depicted as something that people live off of, doesn't flow with the original idea of what mother nature is. There is nothing wrong with him growing trees or natural things, but the buildings and human destruction takes that all away from the central idea that this is supposed to be mother natures child.

    even if it's a human sized child it's a symbolic thing, much like horns or wings or anything extra people have been putting on their characters..
    I understand the symbolism behind it. This is a very gray area. The goal is to design the child relating to nature, as mentioned in the brief. I think the Mohawk made of trees is brilliant, but the city mounted on his back is a man made thing.

    Now, ultimately, it is up to Eph to continue the pursuit of this sketch or not. It is a great idea, but it doesn't correspond close enough to the idea of this being the child of mother nature.

    Scala Naturae

    My take on this weeks challenge is to incorporate the word Scala Naturae.
    The great chains of nature and the renaissance depiction of fairies and fay.
    Although mostly I wanted to stray a little towards the darker approach as a way to suggest that our transgression against nature has produced a reflection of her cruelty in the shape of innocence.

    Gah I've been too optimistic as usual, wish I could have found the time to work more on my design. Great entries so far! These threads are fun to follow.

    damienflux - that is beautiful! really nice work! are you planning to add more underbrush or grass to where her feet are? it is a big contrast from the background being that the rest of the image is full of lush vegitation, and her feet are on a very smooth surface.. i think even just a hint of grass would be enough, but then again this may not be 100% final. either way, very nice work!
