    MCalza's Sketchbook

Hi there, I'm Matheus, and I decided that I'm gonna take drawing seriously and want to work with it, and been doing that for a couple of months now, I'll post some older things at the beginning and update daily later. I really not 100% sure of what I'm doing but I'll figure it out along the way. Critiques and comments are very welcome, sorry for any english mispelling. So, yeah, let's begin!

Some gestures and some Hampton's studies

    Hey Calza!

Really enjoying watching your progress! I'm interested to see where it leads! I've had trouble doing studies like these because sometimes when I am working from them, I find myself just copying but not understanding the actual underlying anatomy. Right now I'm trying Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain and I'm going to go from there. That said you really seem to be improving and your most resent pose studies are looking great! I'll be sure to check back for your updates! I'm also on an educational mission to improve! Good luck and I hope to see some updates soon!

These studies are very intense. How much of these do you produce a day? Are each post a days worth of studies? Man, this would explain why you are so good.\

Fantastic studies in here!! Loving your faces/characters as well! Very cool
One thing I would suggest with your colour-studies would be to try and use a hard-edged round brush at 100% opacity... it's really quite intimidating to use, but forces you to look at the colours and not shy behind the "fade" that opacity jitter/soft-edge brushes provide. Just a suggestion

    P.s. hey good lookin' (;

    great work!
just 1 tip on the digital painting (such as the environments)

: try painting using less opacity brushes, and instead only 100% opacity. observe the colour you need, then try your best to pick it and paint with it. your enviros, for example, will benefit, looking tighter

Thats a lot of work here gathered in one page!! nice!!!

You must be the productive type , and that is more than perfect!
What i liked most was that while you clearly have a focus on characters (form etc), your 2 perspective sketches showed me that you also have a talent for enviroments! Mooooar please!

    >> hallowtreez >> That's surprising to hear, I find that I really struggle with that and always find my drawings really flat, but tnx for the comment and for stopping by
    >> smrrfette >> Tnx! , I'll try that, I'm reading heads and hands(loomis) at the moment, but after that it'll be the first thing
    >> aks9 >> Tnx I'll try that for sure, sounds super hard, but that's what makes us get better, right?

Your pencils have such clean lines!

If I may ask, what is the purpose of these exercises from post 4? Is it to practice thinking 3-dimensionally?

I really like all of those studies that you have done, but some of them suffer from a lack of contrast adjustment.

    >> FightingSeraph >> Tnx for commenting! You mean the scanned image or the drawing itself? If it's the scan, when I first start to do it I didn't really now how to make the image better, I think the first ones are bad in contrast, do you think the later ones are bad aswell? If yes, I'll take a look at my settings for the scan.

Some value studies(ref are the ones on the left), I was still a victim of the pressure sensitivity, the 100%opacityhardbrushthingy is on my to do list.

nice studies man! respect for the amount of studies. michael hampton is the best. love that book! i think are getting a good grasp of anatomy, but try to mix in some more photo studies (nudes) or if you can try to get in on some life drawing because the trick is applying what you have learned. all the subtleties of the human form are impossible to master without life drawing, or if you cant, at least photostudies.

    http://lovecastle.org/draw/

check that site out for a good alternative to life drawing classes. you can set a timer that will cycle through photo references.

i think your doing great stuff dude. just be careful of the leaning figures! (i do it all the time so it stuck out to me haha) and keep it up !

Your anatomy is looking better and better! Really nice on the female statue figure! The 3D perspective images above, what did you make those in? I really like them. I'm sure it was a helpful study too! Really cool stuff as usual! Your progress is really obvious!
