Improving CA.org - Please share ideas <3

Having multiple language sections would be a great way to differentiate this art site from others. The people who would want to use them the most (those who barely speak English) aren't currently here to voice their agreement. It's not a community within a community, it's just a bigger community. The idea is not to replicate every aspect of the English forum into other languages. Some sections (like sketchbooks and challenges for example) would be in one section where everyone would pool them together.

If you take a random look at the artists on CGHubs gallery on the main page you will be surprised how many are Asian.

Vices, that's a good idea. I don't know how this works on other forums, but the first thought I had was that people who don't know english so well would just hang around in their own respective 'language sub-forums' and not on the whole site. I could be wrong though.

From my own experience, most often people aren't afraid of showing they don't know a language so well. They ask for advice and let people know they aren't very good at english and everyone respects that. There's always the possibility of hitting up other active forum-members who speaks the same language and ask for clarity on topics or advice.

Spontaneous banners. Whenever a randomly awesome thread pops up like "teh MSpaint" thread or "Kill the character above" or the upcoming thunderdome pop up we can just make a banner for it and ask a mod to slap it up top. If the mod deems it worthy and there's room for it. It gets posted up top and replaced when the thread runs out of gas.

This is basically what we already had in mind.
We are having a lot of organisation stuff running in the background but within the next few weeks everything will get along so we can do this then.
It's just a matter of organisastion and that will be done soon.

I am also against subforums for different languages.
We added the Google Translation AddOn, so this can already help out members who aren't familiar with the english language.
The translation is not the best, but in most of the cases it's good enough for stuff like that.

Just checked out the new skin. I like how clean and modern it is, but for some reason I prefer looking at the art sections with a slightly darker background.
The light background feels a bit....clinical?
Maybe that's just me and what I'm used to though.

I'm looking forward to new badge system and profiles, plus that "art feed à la twitter" thing sounds good too.

Puh- yeah I get the same feeling, but it is always hard to tell because so much is down to habit, and change tends to be negative in the beginning.
But I do have a problem with the new skin simply because it is too high-contrast. I like how it looks, but I can't use skins that are too light or too dark (I absolutely hate cghub forum skins). If badges and smileys are made with transparent background, there is really no reason why CA couldn't have a choice of skins to choose from. And as a last resort, all your CSS belong to us > : ) (stylish addons etc)

I would like to see the sketchbooks/art-threads up at the top updated regularly, either daily or weekly. I'm sure this is something that will be managed once things fall into place around here, but just pointing it out (:

How do you guys like the idea of having a thread where you can suggest stuff for the banner daily?
This way the stuff would be more community chosen and it would be less work for the one putting them up in the banner because he doesn't need to search the forums for hours to find new good stuff.

I believe a while ago there was the suggestion for sketchbooks that only when the sb owner posted would it get bumped and get rid of a lot of the "awesome work!" replies moving things up. Assuming if there is a good crit, the sb owner would reply fairly soon and that would continue the process.

Alright, Black Spot and I have gone through all the forum sections this morning and we finally cleared all the stickies, except the Tutorial section who needs extra work.
The forum sections are now a lot more clear.

A lot of the stickies have either been moved to tutorials or have been linked with others in one thread. None of them are lost, forgotten etc. If you have a problem with any of the moves, please let us know.

Hi! I would really appreciate a mobile version for the forum.
When I want to check what's new on CA, and I try to do it from my phone, the layout is just the usual one. Results: tiny text (have to zoom a lot to click a link, or simply read) and general painful navigation.

Is the new skin the only setting now? While I appreciate what it's going for (minimal, elegant), the layout is currently far too messy and disjointed to actually support that ideal.

Unfortunately, no.

I find the background colour of this site currently makes it just about completely unusable - and nobody seems to be listening either to me, or to others who have pointed out that they find the current skin extremely difficult to read.

We know the current issues about the design and it will get changed of course. But duo to the huge downtime we had, there is other stuff that needs to get done first.
But we'll try to fix the choose of the skin as fast as possible.

[Edit:] Is the skin selection in your control settings panel also gone.
Please go to "Settings" -> (My Account) "General Settings" -> Forum Skin (last option on the page) and select "Child of ConceptArt NEW".

Admin: ->Settings->Options->Style & Language Settings->Edit Settings.

Select the Yes radio button in the Allow Users To Change Styles area and save.

This theme looks nice but it turns everything the same color as the background so you can't see options in the advanced or quick edit replies.Obviously the site is usable, it's just like having sex with a virgin, only more difficult. You'll just need to find the insertion point for the code that changes the text for the control panel of the edit/post box. Change it to whatever black you're using.

How do you guys feel about getting rid of the Entertainment forum? I never post in these just because I feel like it's not going to be active. Considering that the main Lounge isn't super busy either, it seems like it would be be easier just to merge them and have those discussions in here.

The missing icons and images are fixed now.

- I tried to change the forum section describtion font color from black to a dark grey, but sadly I can't find the line of code. Perhaps the CSS needs to get edited, so I'll hit up some team members for help.

- The sub forum - "Android - Self portrait of the day" has also been moved by me. It doesn't show up anymore, but I can bring it back if people want to.
But I think there's no need for it because the images aren't working anymore and the forum doesn't get used recently.

- The 3 huge broken images in the forum sections "Sketchbooks" and "Finished Artwork" have been temporary deleted til they are fixed. Perhaps we'll also look for another solution.

More updates soon, yay.
