Nicely said. Mistakes seem to have been made and, if so, I hope effort is made to correct them and stop them from happening again. Lets all keep sharing and improving.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Start sharing the post (or the whole thread) to make people notice what we're up to.

Well said, Nemome, nice one. If I was on another site where I could share your post, I would. But I'm an anti-social git, lol, so all I can do is thank you here.

    Thank you!

Thunderdome? I hear about this a lot but don't know what it is. If it's about competing, count me out. I'm a lover not a fighter, ya know?

Firstly, great job on the site updates. Everything looks legit.

Here is the recent EOW #200 thread where there were prizes in the brief. I took the template from the milestone IDW "Mechanical Man" activity where the moderator offered the same prizes. If I was out of line in doing so, the fault is mine.

    Thread: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthr...l-Round-VOTING!

The prizes I promised to the winning individuals that CA.org applies to:

    1st Place: Kvenh
    - A ticket for the next Massive Black Workshop (or for any workshop really, to be used only once though).
    - Downloads of all Massive Black and CA Tutorial and Instructional DVD’s

    2nd Place: LukasN & merl1n (tied)
    - Downloads of up to 6 Massive Black and CA Tutorial and Instructional DVD’s.

    3rd Place: Weatherby
    - Downloads of up to 2 Massive Black and CA Tutorial and Instructional DVD’s.
If you or another moderator could let me know if these prizes are to be awarded, please inform me and I will disseminate. If they do, I'd like to see the winners get their prizes!

Also would it be possible to teach me how to award the EOW winners badges myself? emily g has been kind enough to do that for the EOW activity since the EOW badge was chosen and instituted around a year and a half ago. I'd like to handle that independently so I don't need to ask anyone else to do it. It ensures everyone gets their badge promptly.

    Thanks for your time.

I am getting a new badge system installed. We have the new icons for awards done and the system is downloaded. We have to back up the entire site before installing and are doing that this weekend. I will keep you updated.

We will have a contest this month...and all the details for the new tdome will be announced.

And yes of course...if we need to add more mods for things I am totally open to that.

    new badges/awards

Here are the new badges/awards going in, which Andrew Sommer made for CA. Would love feedback and such.

Can you tell what they are?

The idea is that there are the winners for the different things people do here on the site and that it's like gold medal, blue ribbon, red ribbon, etc...at least that is the kind of thinking, but there are some other colors for the heck of it. Would love some feedback. If folks have any examples on how to make em better, please do share.

Traditional gold, silver and bronze colors would be a bit easier for people to understand, but they look nice! I wonder what they all mean

A bit before my time so we might need some older people chipping in to correct me...but it was a subsection of the forums where people would have art battles. The name comes from an Mad Max 3 Beyond Thunderdome because of this scene (right after there is a brutal cage fight to the death, although I didn't find it on my quick youtube search):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmRAiUPdRjk

Basically two people would duke it out with art. The section still exists actually (you might need to change it so you can view threads from he beginning instead of threads from this month):

They are clean designs, but I can't really tell what any of them are...other than PRO which is pretty obvious, and I guess the mountains would be for EOW. I think there also are too many of them, maybe try limiting it to a select few badges so they are more recognizable and have more meaning. I'm not sure why you need more than just the winning badges for the weekly challenges. Maybe bring back that Crit Eye that a few users got? I think the only one still around with it though is Dile_

the term originate from the movie mad max

Here its a duel of art, its a great way to settle disputes while having fun, on the Irc channel you get a subject and an hour to make it work.
I wish it was a more of a site feature tho, so that you could challenge someone one on the site to a duel in the thunderdome. Could be a dope thing to have...

An idea could be to incorporate it as a prize for the winners of the weeklys say they get the right to challenge someone.

And here I thought it was guys stripped to the waist with hobbled together weapons actually fighting each other in a cage...

Sounds like a cool idea though, but I'm still out. I don't do well fighting against people unless I really have to.

Jason, I'm with the others re the badges. I like them but don't know what most of them are, though if I sat and thought about it for a while, I could probably figure them out. The gold, bronze, silver colours are a good idea but gold and bronze can look similar so maybe something more distinctive? Yellow, blue and red or something?

    Not feeling the mountains.

I still like this one from EOW immensely: http://conceptart.org/forums/environ...rs-icon-2.html

The one made by Aphotic Phoenix is untouchable in my opinion. All the original community activity icons are pretty awesome. Some old traditions should stay?

I like the new buttons these are somewhat intuitive aside from redundancies and the baseball icon. Although I still prefer the look of old school 16 bit animated gifs over these new sleek icons. But that's purely my taste. These new ones maintain their legibility when I pinch and zoom out. So I guess you'd be able to recognize them from your smart phone.

Quick feedback on the buttons, I personally feel colors alone don't distinguish them enough. If they are to be ranked in value like gold, silver and bronze etc. I'd like to see the gold icons stand out even more with a golden border that has some kind of ornamentation/intricate detail that gradually get's less complex as it moves down to silver and bronze. I think in this case where value needs to be determined by a quick glance, visual complexity adds a lot to it. To put it simply .. "what looks badass probably is badass, which means the person who wears a badass badge has to be.. badass"

I agree with Raoul Duke though, the 16bit icons have a nice feel to them and I'd hate to see them go.

Oh and, did someone say Thunderdome?

I would love to see any examples on how they can look better. I have never been great at icon design, but for painted ones like diablo 3 (which i did a ton of for that game).

activity links above are now fixed thanks to bart deco showing me how to do that.

    COW thumbnails are now fixed.

I reckon what should happen with the medals is that they each have a counter as to how many each member has instead of a long line of them.
If possible, when you click on the member profile you'll see their collection of medals and it'll state which forum/thread it was received in.

I don't know what half the badges are off the top of my head, but I could figure them out.

I agree with the others, it would be simpler to just have a gold, silver, bronze set along with maybe a "participation/nice try" one for say any other art duels or what not.. I don't know...

    But yesh, I like it!

Now, on a side-note; does anyone get this site to do a random scroll-up/scroll-down every now and then?
It's happening on several computer I go on, on any browser... I mainly use Chrome... Any idea what it is if anyone else is getting these symptoms?

As far as I know it happens only one every loaded page and has to do with the Google translation bar on the top, which loads a few seconds after the site itself.
It appears and scrolls a few pixels then.

I fixed it with disabling it for this site because I don't need it. The option to disable it is in the drop down menu (click the little arrow) of the Google translation tool.

    I hope this helps.
